  46.         FLASH_X.EXE is a utility to easily update the BIOS on an
  47.         ELSA VICTORY II graphics board.
  48.  
  49.         You will find a list of supported ELSA graphics boards
  50.         in section 4.1.

  55. 2.      Disk/CD Contents

  57.         The program disk/CD contains the following files:

  59.         FLASH_X.EXE     the executable program
  60.  
  61.         DOS4GW.EXE      DOS extender used by FLASH_X.EXE

  64.         README.TXT      this text file, including notes on the
  65.                         current program release
  66.  
  67.         LIESMICH.TXT    German version of the text you are currently
  68.                         reading
  69.  
  70.         IMAGES (DIR)    Subdirectory containing the BIOS images which
  71.                         are used for update. You will find a list of
  72.                         these images in section 4.1.

  77. 3.      Usage Notes
  78.  
  79. 3.1     Standard BIOS update
  80.  
  81.         If you want to update the BIOS on your ELSA VICTORY II
  82.         graphics board just call FLASH_X.EXE from MS-DOS by:
  83.  
  84.         FLASH_X.EXE
  85.  
  86.         The program will look for supported ELSA graphics boards.
  87.         If the program will find one of the supported graphic boards
  88.         in your computer, it will search for the correct BIOS image
  89.         in the directory IMAGES.
  90.  
  91.         After confirmation the program will save your old BIOS to the
  92.         file C:\OLD_xxxx.bin (xxxx is a number, i.e. C:\OLD_0000.bin,
  93.         C:\OLD_0001.bin, ...) and program the new image to your
  94.         ELSA graphics board.
  95.  
  96.         Notes:
  97.  
  98.         - If the BIOS currently installed on your ELSA graphics board
  99.           is the same version than the BIOS in IMAGES, no update is
  100.           done.
  101.  
  102.         - If the BIOS currently installed is older than the one in
  103.           IMAGES, you will be asked if you really want to program
  104.           an older BIOS version to your graphics board.
  105.           If you confirm with 'y' your current BIOS will be saved to
  106.           C:\OLD_xxxx.bin and the older image will be programmed
  107.           to your ELSA graphics board.

  110. 3.2     Command Line Parameters
  111.

  113.         FLASH_X.EXE [filename]
  114.  
  115.         It is possible to pass the filename of the BIOS image, you want
  116.         to program to your graphics board to FLASH_X.EXE.
  117.         If you i.e. pass the name of the saved image to FLASH_X.EXE it
  118.         is possible to restore your saved BIOS version to your
  119.         ELSA graphics board:
  120.  
  121.         (e.g.: FLASH_X.EXE C:\OLD_0000.BIN)
  122.  
  123.         FLASH_X.EXE will check if the BIOS matches your graphics board.
  124.         If not you will get a note.

  128. 4.      Release Notes

  130. 4.1     Supported graphics boards
  131.  
  132.           ELSA VICTORY II SGRAM         (IMAGES\VI2xxxxx.abn)
  133.  
  134.         The program FLASH_X.EXE will check if the BIOS image is valid
  135.         and useable with your ELSA graphics board.
  136.

  140. 5.      Notes & Warnings
  141.  
  142. 5.1     Don't corrupt your BIOS!
  143.  
  144.         Please make sure that while programming a new BIOS to your
  145.         ELSA graphics board you
  146.  
  147.         - don't reset,
  148.         - don't switch off
  149.           or
  150.         - don't interrupt your computer in any way until it's finished!
  151.  
  152.         If you interrupt FLASH_X.EXE in any way before finishing your
  153.         BIOS, you will corrupt the BIOS of your graphics board.
  154.         In this case, please phone our support.
  155.  
  156.         Please wait, until FLASH_X.EXE has finished programming the new
  157.         BIOS to your ELSA graphics board.
  158.  
  159.         The program FLASH_X.EXE will give you a note after it has
  160.         successfully finished the bios programming.

  163. 5.2     Windows DOS-boxes, OS/2
  164.  
  165.         Please note that the program FLASH_X.EXE doesn't work in a
  166.         Windows (98/NT) DOS-box or under OS/2.
  167.  
  168.         You have to boot a DOS system.
