3. Installation
3.1 Installing your graphics board for Windows 95/98
Remove your "old" VGA and put the graphics board into your
computer.
On startup Windows 95/98 detects the graphics board as
"PCI early VGA Device" or a "PCI standard VGA adapter" and
prompts for a manufacturer disk. Advanced users can now install
as described in 3.4, Microsoft WHQL confirm way to install.
If you prefer an easy way to install the driver or the driver is
downloaded as EXE from the web you should first confirm Windows
request to install a "PCI Standard VGA adapter". Later you can
start the EXE or install by Revelator or WINNERware CD.
3.2 Installation from Revelator/WINNERware CD
During a running Windows 95/98 session insert the WINNERware CD
into your CD-ROM. Normally after the CD is read, a setup is
started and guides through installation. In case 'Auto Insert
Notification' is disabled in your system, the setup has to be
started manually by double clicking its icon in the root of CD.
Now you can choose the components to be installed. After
rebooting the system your monitor is recognized and installed.
A resolution and color depth can be chosen now.
3.3 Installing downloaded driver packages
Driver packages from the web are self-extracting EXEs. The files
are temporary copied to e.g. c:\elsainst directory and an
automatic driver setup is started. Tools are installed, too.
After finishing the setup or canceling the procedure the
extracted installation files are deleted, including the
temporary created folder.
3.4 Microsoft WHQL confirm way to install
After Windows recognized the ELSA graphics adapter choose
'Have Disk...'. If you are updating the driver manually, select
'change...' in the advanced settings of the diplay properties.
Now browse through the ELSA CD and select the proper display
driver subdirectory (e.g. GLORIA\SYNERGY\WIN9X\STANDARD).Windows
will copy the driver files and prompt you to reboot the
computer. After restarting, Windows is running with the ELSA
display drivers active. If your graphics adapter is not the
primary display adapter in Windows 98, you have to activate the
hardware by clicking on the connected monitor bitmap in the global
windows display settings.

4. Revision History
This section describes changes to the previous releases of this
disk.
Version 4.11.01.0100-0008
- first released version
Version 4.11.01.0100-0009
- support for TNT-M64 boards added
------------------------------------------------------------------------
5. Release notes
5.1 Restrictions :
We tested the Diamond Viper 550, Viper 770 Ultra and Creative
Labs Graphics Blaster TNT, TNT2 Ultra. Complete functionality
can't be guaranteed for other hardware. The driver is based on
up-to-date nVidia ULTRA DETONATOR releases.
Possibly the original tools provided by your graphics hardware
vendor are not accessible or they are, but loose functionality.
Special functions, like e.g. TV out, perhaps don't work anymore.
5.2 DirectDraw/Direct3D support
The display driver does support DirectDraw/Direct3D from
DirectX6, but to use it in an application, you have to install
DirectDraw/Direct3D. The Microsoft DirectDraw/Direct3D components
are not included in the standard retail version of Windows 95/98.
To install DirectDraw/Direct3D use the SETUP from your
WINNERware/Revelator CD or start the DX61CORE.EXE in the folder:
Drive Letter :\DIRECTX6
5.3 AGP and Windows 95/98
AGP is supported only by the Windows version OSR-2.1 or higher.
This is available after upgrading a Windows 95b (OSR2) version
by the USB-Update 'USBSUPP.EXE'.
The version number of your installed Windows can be found in
the registry under: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
Windows\CurrentVersion\Version and VersionNumber.
The Entries for OSR-2.1 are:
Version "Windows95"
VersionNumber "4.03.1212" or "4.03.1214"
If your mainboard has no Intel chipset it may be necessary to
install a chipset specific software patch to get best support
and performance using the AGP port.
Normally this patch should be delivered on CD with your system
or mainboard. Otherwise you may get the newest patches on the
internetsites of the chipset vendors.
Other chipset vendors are, e.g.: VIA, SIS, ALI.

If you have any questions about full AGP support on non Intel
mainboards please consult your distributor.

6. Known Bugs and Operating Notes
This section documents known anomalies or problems and gives
hints on work arounds.
- for maximum performance the AntiAliasing checkbox in the
3D Settings should be set to "Disable"
- Task switching while 3D applications are active leads to
corruption of textures in some cases
- The DirectDraw resolutions 480x360 and 960x720 are working with
too low frequency for most monitors.
- OpenGL screen savers oftenly crash if an additional suspend
is executed by the system or manually.
- Switching VESA modes to windowed mode (normaly an error
pops up) leads to system crash
- Windows suspend during active 3D applications may cause system
crash in Windows 95
- For best display quality, in the 'More Direct3D' section of 3D
Settings Texel Alignment should be set to "upper left corner".
- Mouse trails are not displayed, because the Riva chip
accelerates this Windows functionality in hardware
