*** ROCK SHOOTER ***
Shareware v1.1
(c)Andrew McNab 1996 (email: 101447.2365@compuserve.com).
-Parts of this program, (c)Virtek International Corporation.
-Music by Faried Verheul (aka Ryo-Ohki) email: 100702.2135@compuserve.com
Minimum requirements: 486 DX or greater, 3Mb ram (2Mb defined as EMS).
Sound Blaster and GUS sound cards supported.
Updates: 1.1 - Improved sound system and music added.
SETUP
Make sure you have at least 2Mb of EMS memory available for this game before
you run the program. To make EMS available to dos programs you need a line
similar to the following, in your config.sys file - 'DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE
2048'. The game can be run under Win95 without setting up the EMM manager.
Win95 may affect the performance of the game slightly.
SOUND - Run setup.exe to configure your sound card.
If the sound effects play, but not the music then you may need to free up
more low memory.
HOW TO PLAY
Type 'rs' and press enter to run the program. If a compatible joystick is
detected the program will get you to calibrate it. Press escape to skip this
if you do not want to use a joystick.
If you get any error messages stating that a file can not be found, make
sure all program files are in the same directory and that you run the game
from within that directory.
From the title screen you can start a new game, change options, view high
scores or quit. The options menu allows you to redefine the keys, select
the type of joystick you are using (default=analogue), and turn the music on
or off.
The aim of the game is to clear each level of asteroids and also any UFOs
that may appear. Each asteroid type takes a different number of hits to
destroy them and likewise with UFOs. The number of targets left to destroy
on the current level is shown at the bottom right of the screen. Also
along the bottom is your current score, a damage bar, indicating how much
more damage you ship will take before you lose one of three lives, and a
short range radar showing objects around you (you are at the centre of the
cross). Six increasingly difficult levels must be completed to win the game.
The default keys are:
Z/X: Turn to left or right
C: Thrust forward
Spacebar: Fire
Joystick controls:
Turn - push joystick left or right
Fire - press or hold button 1
Thrust - press or hold button2
View controls
F1: default 3d view
F2: top-down view
NOTE: Only the easy skill level is available in this shareware version.
See 'register.txt' for details on how to purchase the full version.
