Version: 1.1
Release date: 16 October 1995
Machine requirements: 286 16MHZ min, 640K, VGA, any DOS should do.
DESCRIPTION:
BAT 'n BALL is a game that tests your reflexes as you attempt to guard a
castle of sorts from a drug-crazed bouncing ball.
You have at your disposal a crude but effective bat and (hopefully) nerves
of steel.
Your castle is surrounded by a brick wall which quickly crumbles when hit
by the malevolent ball.
Defend it valiantly, for a hit to the pretty blocks at its core will lose you
a life.
Stick around untill your opponents lose their castles and you will progress to
a new screen - lose all three lives and you've blown your chances.
FEATURES:
The game sports at least a dozen or so different playing areas.
Ominous beeps should emit from your computer's built-in speaker.
The game can be paused and the sound disabled during play.
Two players can play simultaneously.
Opponents get meaner, the ball faster and the playing area more difficult as
you progress through levels.
For each castle destroyed another ball appears.
You can start play at a higher level if the first screens become a drag.
HOW TO PLAY:
The idea is to survive all of the screens. Sounds too easy?
Defend your castle (pile of blocks) with your bat.
If the ball smashes through its outer layer (wall) and hit the centre, you
lose a life.
Bump the ball with the end of your bat to deflect it towards the corner of a
an opponent's castle.
This makes it more difficult for your opponent to reach it in time.
If one player loses a life during a two player game, the other continues alone
untill the screen is finished or another life is lost.
Try to eliminate your opponents quickly, for the ball soon turns an angry red
and tries to set a new speed record.
In the two player game you must avoid trapping the ball between your castles
by blocking it only when necessary.
PLAYING KEYS:
These can be redefined but starts out as:
Z - player 1 up\left
X - player 1 down\right
[ - player 2 down\left
] - player 2 up\right
NEW IN RELEASE 1.1:
1) When any of the castles is destroyed another ball appears.
There can be up to three balls in play at a time.
2) I've changed some colours and graphics.
Whether its an improvement is debatable ;)
3) The ball can't pass through a bat from behind anymore.
This makes the game more difficult, but fortunately also for your opponents.
4) The game runs EXACTLY the same speed on all computers unless your PC's
realtime clock runs at non-realtime speeds :)
5) If you redefine the playing keys it gets stored.
