  1. GAZILLIONAIRE  
  2. (an adventure/strategy game in outer space!)

  5. I.  INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:  
  6.  
  7. In order to install the executable game to Windows 3.1, 
  8. the SETUP ROUTINE requires three blank formatted
  9. 1.44 MB floppy disks.
  10.  
  11. 1)  First, extract the DISK files by typing 
  12.  
  13. PKUNZIP GAZ1.ZIP
  14. PKUNZIP GAZ2.ZIP
  15. PKUNZIP GAZ3.ZIP
  16.  
  17. You should see three disk files
  18. DISK1.ZIP, DISK2.ZIP and DISK3.ZIP
  19.  
  20. 2) Go to the directory on your hard drive where DISK1.ZIP is located.
  21.  
  22. Insert a blank 1.44 MB disk in drive A: 
  23. (assuming A: is your floppy disk drive)
  24. Type PKUNZIP DISK1.ZIP A:
  25. Once PKUNZIP has extracted all the files to your disk, 
  26. remove the disk from drive A:
  27.  
  28. Insert another blank 1.44 MB disk in drive A:
  29. Type PKUNZIP DISK2.ZIP A:
  30. Once PKUNZIP has extracted all the files to your disk, 
  31. remove the disk from drive A:
  32.  
  33. Insert another blank 1.44 MB disk in drive A:
  34. Type PKUNZIP DISK3.ZIP A:
  35. Once PKUNZIP has extracted all the files to your disk:, 
  36. remove the disk from drive A:

  38. 3)  You have now completed creating your Gazillionaire floppy 
  39. disk installation set.  Follow the instructions below to install 
  40. Gazillionaire onto any Windows 3.1 compatible computer.  
  41. NOTE:  You may now delete all the .ZIP files, 
  42. such as DISK1.ZIP, DISK2.ZIP, DISK3.ZIP, GAZ1.ZIP, GAZ2.ZIP 
  43. and GAZ3.ZIP.  This will free up over 6 MB of hard disk space.
  44.  
  45. 4)  To install Gazillionaire from the FLOPPY DISKS 
  46. follow these instructions:
  47.  
  48. i)      Start Microsoft Windows
  49. ii)     Insert DISK # 1 in drive A:  (assuming A: is your floppy disk drive)
  50. iii)    From Program Manager, select FILE menu and choose RUN
  51. iv)    Type A:\SETUP
  52.  
  53. II.  RUNNING THE GAME:
  54.  
  55. The installation has been completed.  Now it is time to play the game.
  56.  
  57. i)    Go to the Gazillionaire program group.
  58. ii)   Double click on the icon labeled Gazillionaire.
  59. iii)  The game Gazillionaire should run.
  60.

  77. III.       PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:
  78.  
  79. a)  Microsoft Windows 3.1 or later.  3.5 HD disk drive.
  80. b)  A 386, 486 or Pentium-based DOS-compatible computer. 
  81. c)  VGA graphics, color monitor.
  82. d)  11 Megabytes of hard disk space.
  83. e)  4 Megabytes of RAM.
  84.  
  85. NOTE:  The graphics look best if you are running in 256 color mode.
  86. If you run the game and the planets do not look like real planets with 
  87. hundreds of colors, then you are probably running in 16 
  88. color mode.  You should use VGA, 640 by 480 graphics, 256 colors, 
  89. small fonts.  To change your system settings (Windows Setup), 
  90. contact your computer manufacture's technical support.  They 
  91. should help you install the necessary graphics drivers.

  93. IV.      POSSIBLE ERRORS:
  94.  
  95. If you encounter an error not on this list, please let us know.
  96.  
  97. 1)  If you have any trouble with the display, text size or colors, try 
  98. switching Windows to VGA graphics.  Gazillionaire looks best if 
  99. you use VGA, 640 by 480 graphics, 256 colors (8 bpp), small font size.
  100.  
  101. 2)  All programs running under Microsoft Windows share resources, 
  102. and this tends to cause problems.  If you encounter any problems, 
  103. try closing down any power hungry applications like Photoshop or 
  104. MS Word.  They may be stealing resources from Gazillionaire.  
  105. If you are still having problems, try rebooting your computer 
  106. and running Gazillionaire without any other programs active at 
  107. the same time.
  108.  
  109. 3)  Gazillionaire uses a lot of memory, so if you are having memory 
  110. problems, you should go to the Windows Program Manager, double 
  111. click on the MAIN program group icon, double click on 
  112. CONTROL PANEL icon, double click on 386 ENHANCED icon, 
  113. select VIRTUAL MEMORY.  Check to see that your VIRTUAL 
  114. MEMORY is set to at least 6 megabytes.
  115.  
  116. 4) If you try installing Gazillionaire on your hard drive and get the 
  117. message Error - Could not copy file: VER.DL_, then just go to your 
  118. Windows directory and delete file VER.DL from the hard drive.  
  119. Try installing Gazillionaire again.  It should install without a problem, 
  120. and don't worry, Gazillionaire will install a copy of VER.DL and 
  121. VER.DLL on your hard drive.  This same rule applies any time you 
  122. get the message Error - Could not copy file: .  Just make sure not to 
  123. delete a newer version of the .DLL or .VBX files.
  124.  
  125. 5) Gazillionaire copies several .VBX files and .DLL files into your 
  126. Windows system directory.  If you already have these files installed, 
  127. the installation program will NOT overwrite them.  Other Windows 
  128. applications may also be using these same files.  If you have older 
  129. versions of these files already on your hard drive, the older versions 
  130. may not be compatible with the new versions.  This is a design problem 
  131. with Microsoft's component software system.  Microsoft has not yet 
  132. figured out how to solve this problem.  If you encounter this problem, 
  133. you need to delete the older .VBX and .DLL files yourself using the 
  134. FILE MANAGER.  Be sure to check the version number 
  135. before deleting any of the .VBX and .DLL files in your Windows System 
  136. directory and Windows directory.  NOTE:  We have included WPS.EXE 
  137. to help you check the version numbers.  Just go to FILE MANAGER, 
  138. select RUN, and type C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WPS.EXE.  
  139. WPS allows you to load in any file from any directory and 
  140. check its version number.
  141.  
  142. Once you have deleted any outdated files, try installing Gazillionaire 
  143. again. The Gazillionaire setup program will install all the .VBX and 
  144. .DLL files required to run the game.  Listed below are the .VBX 
  145. and .DLL files we use in connection with Gazillionaire.   All these files 
  146. are from either Microsoft Visual Basic version 3.0 or VideoSoft VSVBX 
  147. version 4.0.  If you have any questions regarding later versions, 
  148. please contact either Microsoft or VideoSoft.
