MANARC.EXE--A FILE ARCHIVE MANAGER
MANARC.EXE is a program designed as a front end driver
for PKXARC and PKARC. PKXARC and PKARC are shareware archiving
programs available on many BBS's in a package as PKX35A35.EXE.
These are powerful programs.
MANARC.EXE is menu driven. It allows you to view directories
of archived files, view the files themselves, update, freshen
add, extract, and print files from archives.
MANARC.EXE also allows the user to view files that you are
about to archive or have extracted. For this capability, the user
must have a copy of a program called BROWSE.COM which is available
on the PC-IRS BBS. You can also use a program that is called
SHOW.EXE, the source of which is available with the MASM 5.0
package from Microsoft. You could also use a similar program
renamed to either BROWSE or SHOW with either a .COM or .EXE
file extension. That program should show a file's contents
taking the file name as the first argument on the command line.
To Start MANARC.EXE, type MANARC on the command line.
You will see a menu. You can select from options by selecting
the highligted letter or using the cursor left, right, home,
or end keys. once you have the option you want press the return
key. You will probably then see another menu this one vertical.
Select options like in the first one but use cursor up and cursor
down instead of left and right.
Use the Archive Set function to set the disk drive, directory
and name of the archive you wish to work with. Use the file set
function to set the disk drive and directory, and file specs to
work with. When selecting files, if you wish to see a directory
press the page down key when in the file name window. Set the
default file spec and press the return key. You will see a listing
of applicable files. Use the cursor keys to select the file you
wish and press the return key. Note that you can only select one
file with this option. Note if you are archiving and extracting you
can enter multiple specs, but they will not show in the legend at
the bottom of the screen. Use the View function to see the contents
of files that you are about to archive or that you have already
extracted.
The archive and extract functions are the most powerful.
They directly parallel the functions of PKXARC and PKARC.
Manarc calls PKXARC and PKARC to do the actual work.
The Archive function allows you to select auto-commenting.
This feature will allow PKARC to ask you for comments when
archiving files. This is a toggle function and is displayed
on the legend at the bottom of the screen. You can also
encrypt and decrypt files stored in an archive. If you
select one of these functions you will be prompted for a
password to enter. Enter the password and press the enter
key to continue.
You can use the dos function to get access to any dos
function or program. To return to MANARC, enter EXIT.
You leave MANARC by selecting the quit option.
