  2.                       EZDISK HARD DISK MENU PROGRAM
  3.                            General Program Help
  4.  
  5.     This program has been written to assist individuals with the 
  6.     operation of software and functions on a hard disk on IBM PC
  7.     compatible microcomputers. 
  8.  
  9.     The basic features consist of the following:
  10.          Options changed by users      Multiple menu pages
  11.          Sub-menu capability           Option passwords
  12.          Option edit password          Exit password
  13.          User created help files       Operate in or out of memory
  14.          Prompt changeable by user     Prompt speed setting
  15.          Help files for each option    Color settings
  16.          Change system date & time
  17.  
  18.     The following help screens go into these features in more detail.

  21.                          SELECTING MENU OPTIONS
  22.     Select menu options by hilighting the desired option with the up
  23.     and down arrow keys or by typing the number of the option.
  24.  
  25.     If the option is password protected, the password must be entered
  26.     exactly (this includes upper and lower case).
  27.  
  28.                               FUNCTION KEYS
  29.     F1 - Help     = Instructions either General or for an Option.
  30.     F2 - Add      = Add a new menu option
  31.     F3 - Edit     = Edit existing menu option
  32.     F4 - Delete   = Delete menu option
  33.     F5 - Pg Add   = Add another page to the existing menu
  34.     F6 - Pg Del   = Delete displayed menu page
  35.     F8 - Menu     = Change menu title
  36.     F9 - Defaults = Change program defaults
  37.     F10- Exit     = Exit EZDISK program and return to DOS
  38.  
  39.     Functions F2 through F10 may be password protected
  40.  
  41.     F1 - Help
  42.     ---------
  43.     User instructions may be obtained for system operation by
  44.     viewing help files either General (for the EZDISK program) or for
  45.     a specific Option.
  46.  
  47.     The help files are ASCII text files and may be user developed
  48.     with 78 characters across by 20 lines displayed at a time.  The
  49.     complete help file may be no more than 255 lines.

  51.     F2 - Add/F3 - Edit
  52.     ------------------
  53.     The system user may add new menu options or make changes to
  54.     existing options the prompts are explained below:
  55.  
  56.     Option to Add/Edit:  May add any number up to one more than the
  57.     current number of options.  May edit any existing option.
  58.  
  59.     Title:  Title to be shown on menu
  60.  
  61.     <D>OS Command or <M>enu:  By selecting a "D", the system will
  62.     prompt for the DOS commands needed to perform the menu option.  An
  63.     "M" will allow for creation or use of a sub-menu.
  64.  
  65.     Password:  Password required to perform the menu option.  Blank
  66.     entry here will not require a password.
  67.  
  68.     Help File:  ASCII Text file to be displayed when F1-Help Option
  69.     is selected while this menu option is hilighted.

  71.     If "M" for Menu was selected above:
  72.  
  73.          Menu File Name:  Name of menu file to be displayed when this
  74.          option is selected.
  75.  
  76.          Menu Title:  Title to be given menu if it doesn't already
  77.          exist.

  81.     IF "D" for DOS Command was selected above:
  82.  
  83.          DOS Command Line #:  The commands which would be typed at
  84.          the DOS prompt to perform the menu option are typed here. 
  85.          A DOS Command Line should correspond to each line that would
  86.          be typed at the DOS prompt.  For example:  to run Wordstar,
  87.          the following DOS commands would be needed:
  88.                    CD\WS           (change to Wordstar directory)
  89.                    WS              (run the Wordstar program)
  90.  
  91.          Prompts may also be placed in a command line to pause and
  92.          ask the operator for input such as for a particular file or
  93.          a disk drive.
  94.  
  95.          The "[" starts a prompt and the "]" ends th prompt.  A "|"
  96.          between allows for default entries.  A menu option to
  97.          display a disk directory may be entered as follows:

  99.          DIR [Enter drive/path|c:\][Enter file specifications|*.*]
  100.  
  101.          Some of the DOS commands that may be included on the DOS
  102.          command lines are:
  103.  
  104.               PAUSE     Halts and prompts to press any key to continue
  105.               ECHO      Displays text on the screen
  106.               COMMAND /C file     Allows batch files to return to menu
  107.  
  108.     F4 - Delete
  109.     -----------
  110.     Deletes menu option from current menu.  Will prompt with "Are you
  111.     sure?" before deleting.

  113.     F5 - Pg Add
  114.     -----------
  115.     Adds a page to the existing menu to allow additional options.
  116.  
  117.     F6 - Pg Del
  118.     -----------
  119.     Deletes displayed page.  Will prompt with "Are you sure?".

  121.     F8 - Menu
  122.     ---------
  123.     Allows current menu title to be changed.

  125.     F9 - Defaults
  126.     -------------
  127.     Allows program defaults to be changed including the following:
  128.          Help     = Displays General help file
  129.          Memory   = Allows menu to stay memory resident
  130.          Date     = Changes system date (no changes to clock card)
  131.          Time     = Changes system time (no changes to clock card)
  132.          Color    = Changes colors displayed on menu screens
  133.          Prompt   = Changes moving menu prompt and display speed
  134.          Password = Sets password for keys F2-F9 and F10
  135.          File     = Indicates General Help file and main menu file
  136.  
  137.     F10 - Quit
  138.     ----------
  139.     Exits to DOS prompt.  May be password protected.

  142.                              DEFAULT PROGRAM
  143.  
  144.     The defaults selected in option F9 - Defaults are set with a
  145.     separate program that may only be operated from the EZDISK
  146.     program.  These default functions are as follows:
  147.  
  148.     F1 - Help
  149.     ---------
  150.     Allows access to the same General help file as the EZDISK
  151.     program.
  152.  
  153.     F2 - Memory
  154.     -----------
  155.     Allows EZDISK program to operate faster by remaining memory
  156.     resident or to operate out of memory for larger applications.  If
  157.     not operating from memory, the EZ.BAT batch file must have been
  158.     used to start the EZDISK program.

  161.     F3 - Date
  162.     ---------
  163.     Changes the system date.  This will not change the date on any
  164.     clock/calendar cards used to set the system date at startup.
  165.  
  166.     F4 - Time
  167.     ---------
  168.     Changes the system time.  This will not change the time on any
  169.     clock/calendar cards used to set the system date at startup.

  171.     F5 - Color
  172.     ----------
  173.     Changes the colors of the menu.  All 16 colors may be selected.
  174.     Be careful when making one color the same as the background or it
  175.     will not be visible.

  177.     Color categories are:
  178.          TEMPLATE                 MENU                MENU OPTION
  179.          MAINTENANCE DISPLAY      FUNCTION KEYS       BACKGROUND

  181.     F6 - Prompt
  182.     -----------
  183.     Changes the moving menu prompt (up to 55 characters) and also
  184.     allows the delay to be set changing the prompt movement speed. The
  185.     higher the delay the slower the prompt moves.

  187.     F7 - Password
  188.     -------------
  189.     Allows a password to be set for access to function keys F2-F9 and
  190.     another password to exit to DOS (F10).

  192.     F8 - File
  193.     ---------
  194.     The Main Menu File may be indicated (the default is EZMAIN but may
  195.     be any other file).  The General Help File may also be identified
  196.     (the default is EZHELP.HLP).  The help file may be any ASCII text
  197.     file.  The help function displays 78 columns by 20 lines per
  198.     screen and the file may be up to 255 lines in length. Any ASCII
  199.     text file may be used.
