  9. *********** GENERAL INFORMATION ************

  11. This file is to inform you of our first and newest demo: LightShade.
  12. This demo was actually made in 11 days and 6 hours total and has the 
  13. following features:
  14.  
  15.     - 486 or 386 required, preferably at 33 MHz and up
  16.       (you don't need a floating point coprocessor, as with the previous
  17.        version)
  18.     - VGA (a fast VGA is recommended)
  19.     - GUS 512Kb only (maybe other cards in newer versions)
  20.     - Startup parameters to start the demo
  21.     - Harddisk installation required
  22.  
  23. LightShade became 5th on Bizarre '94 (out of 9 :), with 56 points.
  24. Bizarre '94 took place on May 7 & 8 at Nijmegen. 
  25. Although we didn't win the contest, we were very proud of our first product.

  28. ********** HOW TO INSTALL / RUN ***********

  30. You probably got this demo with the following files:
  31.  
  32.     LISH.NFO     = this file
  33.     LISHTECH.NFO = how we did it
  34.     DVISION!.NFO = what we do and don't
  35.     LISH.EXE     = the actual executable
  36.     DV.000 .. DV.017
  37.                  = all demo data
  38.  
  39. to install LightShade, copy these files to a directory on your harddisk.
  40. Now you can type:
  41.  
  42.     LISH
  43.  
  44. and the demo should start with a message concerning the soundcard you
  45. want to use; the choice is somewhat limited: GUS and no music (you can select
  46. Soundblaster (Pro), but the demo won't run). If you choose
  47. GUS, you have to select you GUS I/O address.
  48. It is wise to give LightShade all your memory, to avoid hangups and
  49. 'Error loading ...' messages. LightShade needs about 512Kb of free main RAM.

  51. To start LightShade at a different point than the beginning, type:
  52.  
  53.     LISH <number>
  54.  
  55. where number is one of the following:
  56.  
  57.     0 = start from the DoomPlasma part (same as no parameters)
  58.     1 = start from the CrazyLogo part
  59.     2 = start from the StarField part
  60.     3 = start from the CrossFader part
  61.     4 = start from the "LightShade" part (titles etc.)
  62.     5 = start from the credits (the most interesting part :)

  64. LightShade has no demo-looping option (atleast not yet).
  65.  
  66. If you press a key during the demo, it will finish the current event and
  67. then quit to DOS.

  70. *********** TROUBLESHOOTING ************
  71.  
  72. Here is a list of things that could go wrong (as far as we tested it) with 
  73. the appropriate solution:
  74.  
  75.     P: I get "Error loading ..." messages.
  76.     S: You don't have all the data for the demo or you don't have enough free
  77.        memory. Try freeing some of the TSR's from memory (review your 
  78.        AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS). For more information on how to do this,
  79.        read your DOS-manual.
  80.  
  81.     P: One part of the demo goes on too long and the music doesn't fit the 
  82.        demo anymore.
  83.     S: This could be several things: 
  84.            - you don't have a fast enough computer (or a fast enough VGA)
  85.            - you have a very fragmented or very slow harddisk 
  86.        Try unfragmenting your harddisk (COMPRESS) or use a disk cache like    
  87.        SmartDrive. If that doesn't work, wait for a newer version or buy a 
  88.        faster computer.

  90.     P: I hear nothing / nothing but UltraClicks.
  91.     S: Either you're someone making making fun of us or you have found a bug 
  92.        we couldn't find. It seems some GUSses are different then others.
  93.        Another possible source of trouble may be QEMM. Try running LightShade
  94.        without QEMM. 
  95.        Notify us when it still doesn't work and tell us exactly what your 
  96.        configuration is and what your TSR's are so we can pinpoint the problem 
  97.        for the newer versions. For information on how to contact us, read the 
  98.        DVISION!.NFO file.
  99.  
  100.     P: The program is located on a DoubleSpace disk and it won't run.
  101.        (it may be possible you get a 'Stack overflow' error)
  102.     S: We don't know why, but DoubleSpace can cause serious problem when you
  103.        want to run LightShade. The only solution we know of, is installing
  104.        LightShade to an un-DoubleSpace-d disk.

  107. We tested LightShade on the following systems/configs and it didn't cause any
  108. problems with those:
  109.     386DX40,ET4000: with/without SmartDrv, with/without Himem, 
  110.                     with/without DOS High&UMB, with/without EMM386
  111.     486DX40,Diamond Speedstar: SmartDrv, Himem, DOS High&UMB, EMM386
  112.     486DX33,Diamond Speedstar: SmartDrv, Himem, DOS High&UMB, EMM386
  113.     486DX33,Trident T8900: SmartDrv, Himem, DOS High&UMB, EMM386
