  14. ------------
  15. To install EtCetera, copy the EtCetera files into your Windows directory,
  16. and then create the program icon using whatever method your shell program
  17. requires.  For Program Manager, choose the New option from the File menu.
  18. Choose "Program Item".  Then type in the name of the program file,
  19. ETCETERA.EXE, and press Enter.  The EtCetera icon will appear.

  21. EtCetera comes with a copy of Microsoft's COMMDLG.DLL to provide file/
  22. directory dialog boxes.  If you already have this file (it would be in
  23. your Windows SYSTEM subdirectory), do not copy the one provided by
  24. EtCetera.  The file is included with Windows 3.10.  You may already
  25. have it with Windows 3.00 if any other program you have requires it (in
  26. which case that program would provide it).

  28. ETCETERA.HLP is the on-line documentation.  This can be accessed via
  29. the Help menu in EtCetera.  You can also run it yourself using the
  30. Windows Help program, WINHELP.EXE.  Refer to the help file for
  31. information on using EtCetera.

  33. ETC_DEMO.ETC is a sample EtCetera batch file.  It shows off some of
  34. EtCetera's capabilities.

  36. Changes from Previous Versions
  37. ------------------------------

  39. EtCetera 1.20 differs in a few minor ways.
  40.  
  41. One is the elimination of a few commands: ArrayBox, Decrypt, DirList, 
  42. Encrypt, FileBox, ListBox, and MMOverride.  Some of features are available
  43. in the current non-shareware version (1.30 or higher), except MMOverride,
  44. which is no longer necesarry.  EtCetera automatically detects whether
  45. or not your version of Windows supports Multimedia and behaves
  46. accordingly.  FileBox and DirList have been superceded (see below).
  47.  
  48. EtCetera 1.20 includes support for 32-bit integers (versus the 16-bit
  49. limit of previous versions).  This allows numbers ranging from around
  50. -2,000,000,000 to +2,000,000,000.  There are currently [hint] no
  51. functions available which require values larger than the older 16-bit
  52. format (-32768 to +32767), but the numbers are supported now if you
  53. need them.

  55. EtCetera requires COMMDLG.DLL, which is provided with EtCetera in case
  56. you are using Windows 3.00 and do not have this file.  In place of
  57. the DirList and FileBox commands, you can use the new CommFileBox
  58. command, which is a much more attractive dialog box.

  60. The command ChooseMenu has been added.  This command allows you to
  61. choose an item off of a menu without having to send keystrokes.  See
  62. the on-line documentation for details.

  64. The bug requiring the presence of MMSYSTEM.DLL has been eliminated,
  65. allowing this program to function with installations of Windows 3.00
  66. which do not have the Multimedia Extensions.

  68. Enhancements have been made to several commands, including If/Then,
  69. Alert, Ask, Message, Query, Copy, Rename, Delete, CD, RD, MD, and
  70. others.  In all cases, backward compatibility has been maintained.

  74. Registration
  75. ------------
  76. EtCetera 1.20 is a shareware product.  You are authorized to use the
  77. program on a trial basis according to the terms set forth in the
  78. banner which displays when you run EtCetera.
  79.  
  80. When you register, you will be shipped a copy of the current,
  81. non-shareware version of EtCetera.  This version contains additional
  82. features, and, perhaps more importantly, it is not "nag-ware".
  83.  
  84. In fact the new, registered version of EtCetera (version 2.0) gives the user the ability to send key strokes to a DOS window in 386 enhanced mode.

  86. Whenever you bring up EtCetera in editor mode (so it comes up in a
  87. window and does not automatically attempt to run a batch file), you
  88. will see the banner screen reminding you that this is shareware.
  89. Additionally, when you run EtCetera in Execute mode (automatically
  90. runs a batch file), there is a chance that the banner message will
  91. appear.  The version available to registered users never brings up
  92. a banner when you attempt to run a batch file automatically, and
  93. their is no mention of it being shareware.

  95. Registration will also gain you special access to the Thetaware BBS.
  96. From this BBS you can get sample files, direct access to our
  97. developers, special product preview information, and shareware versions
  98. of new products.
