  13. The Desktop Helper is a Windows 3.x Desktop utility that provides
  14. capabilities missing from Microsoft's Program Manager while also
  15. providing the more important capabilities of the Task Manager.  The
  16. features include:
  17.  
  18.         - Convenient pop-up menu at the click of a button.
  19.  
  20.         - Pop-up menu available from any window.
  21.  
  22.         - Configurable launch list of frequently executed programs.
  23.           No need to use an editor to maintain the list.  Why
  24.           should anyone have to leave the Windows environment in
  25.           order to maintain a Windows program?
  26.  
  27.         - Switch to or terminate a task, even if the task is not
  28.           currently visible (ie. hidden by other windows).
  29.  
  30.         - Display free system resources.
  31.  
  32.         - Able to exit Windows without being queried about saving
  33.           Desktop changes.
  34.  
  35.         - Pop-up file selector browser to choose a file to run.
  36.  
  37.         - No useless ICON to clutter up the Desktop.
  38.  
  39.         - Small memory usage- occupies less than 20K of memory (code,
  40.           data, and stack) when not in use.  When activated, small
  41.           (less than 4K) segments of program code are loaded into
  42.           memory.  When finished performing a task, Windows is free to
  43.           remove these extra segments if the memory space is needed by
  44.           other applications.

  50.         HISTORY.TXT -Revision history (ASCII text file)
  51.         ORDER.TXT   -Order form (ASCII text file)
  52.         DH.WRI      -Installation & use documentation (view with WRITE)
  53.         DH.INI      -Sample initialization file
  54.         DH.EXE      -The Desktop Helper executable program
  55.         DHHOOK.DLL  -Dynamic Link Library used by DH.EXE

  58. The Desktop Helper is distributed as shareware.  The Desktop Helper
  59. may be freely copied and distributed for evaluation as long as the
  60. following rules are followed:
  61.  
  62.         1.  The program (DH.EXE and DHHOOK.DLL), and the documentation
  63.             (READ.ME, HISTORY.TXT, ORDER.TXT, and DH.WRI) are not modified
  64.             in any way, shape, or form.
  65.  
  66.         2.  A copy of all files are provided with each copy of The Desktop
  67.             Helper.  These files are: READ.ME, HISTORY.TXT, ORDER.TXT,
  68.             DH.WRI, DH.INI, DH.EXE, and DHHOOK.DLL.

  70.         3.  No charge, other than a media and handling charge (not to
  71.             exceed $5.00), is made.
  72.  
  73.         4.  A user may use the program for thirty days before paying the
  74.             registration fee.  If the program is used after the thirty-
  75.             day evaluation period, an obligation to register and pay
  76.             the registration fee is incurred.
  77.  
  78.             If at the end of this trial period you do not feel that
  79.             this program is worth the registration fee then you are
  80.             obligated to discontinue the usage of The Desktop Helper.

  82. The registration fee for The Desktop Helper is $15 (U.S. Dollars).
  83. Payment of this fee entitles you to technical support via mail (EMAIL
  84. or U.S. postal) and encourages the author to add new features.  You
  85. will receive a registration number valid for any version 1.x of The
  86. Desktop Helper.  Proper registration will disable the occasional beg
  87. for money.  See the DH.WRI or ORDER.TXT files for further details and
  88. a mail-in registration form.  Update disk available at extra cost.

  98. 1.  No known bugs.

  100. 2.  DH will only work properly in Windows 3.0 and above environments.
  101.     This is because DH makes use of support only available as of version
  102.     3.0, such as- floating menus, multi-level menus, proportional fonts
  103.     in all dialog boxes, etc.

  105. 3.  DH only works on a 80286 or greater processor.  It runs in Windows
  106.     Standard or Enhanced mode of operation.
