  1. I too am concerned about potential barriers to the success of the WWW.

  11. We are having the same experience in Hewlett Packard. Users are rightly
  12. concerned about learning new formats. My ideas for combatting this are:

  14.         a) introduce simple to use WYSIWYG editors for HTML
  15.            (should be much much easier than Microsoft Word etc.)
  16.  
  17.         b) it should be trivial to include plain ASCII documents
  18.            (my browser automatically recognises different formats
  19.             based on document content and/or file extensions)
  20.  
  21.         c) simple filters for converting common document formats to/from HTML
  22.            (e.g. Microsoft Word via RTF)
  23.  
  24.         d) writing a good beginners guide for HTML aimed at minimising
  25.            learning problems
  26.  
  27.         e) Getting out there and letting people know how good WWW is.
  28.  
  29. IMHO HTML is much simpler than most existing formats and once people
  30. get over their fright, they will become enthusiasts.
