  3. We are converting one of our pc-labs from os/2 to ms-dos with novell. We
  4. have a standard setup for ethernet-connected pc-s that include novell,
  5. tcp/ip and trumpet winsock.
  6.  
  7. We have a novell-3.12 server if that matters, ipxodi, winpkt etc,
  8. are all the newest version available.
  9.  
  10. This lab however is on token-ring. Is it possible to have this kind
  11. of a setup on token-ring? Novell works ok after some modifications
  12. but I encounter problems with the tcp/ip stuff.
  13.  
  14. First of all, NCSA-telnet can't put packets on the network and second,
  15. winsock complains it needs blue-book- (whatever that means, I guess
  16. ethernet) or SLIP-networking
  17.  
  18. Does soembody have this kind of setup working, and could she/he mail
  19. me her/his setup? I've included my setup so you all can see what I
  20. screwed up ;).

  87.     WSGopher, Inc. is pleased to announce WSGopher version 6.0, the latest
  88. in a long line of information retrieval tools.  The following summarizes
  89. the features of this new version. 
  90.  
  91. ** Network support
  92.     WSGopher 6.0 supports all current WinSock stacks, and includes direct
  93. support for most other networks currently in use today.
  94.     If WSGopher is installed on a computer without a network, it will
  95. attempt to locate a networked machine via the electrical power lines,
  96. and use that machines network access.

  98. ** Additional protocols supported
  99.     WSGopher 6.0 continues to support the Gopher, Gopher+ and Gopher++
  100. protocols.  In addition, a "state of the art" neural net enables
  101. WSGopher to support other information retrieval protocols, including
  102. but not limited to:
  103.     - HTTP; WSGopher is now a full fledged World Wide Web client
  104.     - Z30.50 protocol used by WAIS; WSGopher is now a WAIS client,
  105.       eliminating the need to set up the Gopher server to do this
  106.     - SMTP, POP and IMAP; WSGopher can now send and receive email
  107.       directly, or function as a mail client
  108.     - EDI and related protocols for electronic data interchange,
  109.       including full support for electronic funds transfer; you can now
  110.       do your personal banking with WSGopher, eliminating the need for
  111.       writing checks to pay regular bills (see the section below on
  112.       "Methods of Payment")
  113.  
  114.     The advanced neural net used by WSGopher is able to "learn" new
  115. protocols by analyzing the messages sent between a client and server.
  116. For instance, we ran WSGopher while using a popular news reader, and
  117. after a week WSGopher was also news client, with the added benefit of
  118. multimedia support.  See for yourself how WSGopher displays images and
  119. movies posted to Usenet!

  121. ** "Virtual bookmarks"
  122.     The same adaptive neural net mentioned above also gives WSGopher a
  123. distinct advantage by recognizing not only the full gamut of Gopher
  124. bookmark formats, but the 200+ variations on URLs.  You can now use
  125. every variety of information locator in use today with WSGopher.
  126.     WSGopher can also recognize simple English commands for locating
  127. information, such as "Please play the third song on that 8 track", and
  128. "Is this file on my latest backup?"

  130. ** Tachyon network support
  131.     Probably the most important new feature of WSGopher 6.0 is it's support
  132. for the new "tachyon networks".  As you know, tachyon networks allow
  133. server requests to be received before they are sent, and the more tachyon
  134. repeaters in a network, the earlier the delivery.
  135.     WSGopher capitalizes on this in several ways:
  136.     - allows for early delivery times to be scheduled during non-peak
  137.       hours.  This is particularly attractive for those trying to do
  138.       Veronica queries, only to find that every server is busy.
  139.     - whenever you make a request over a tachyon network, WSGopher
  140.       checks the responses that have already arrived, and presents the
  141.       appropriate ones if found.
  142.     - If a response arrives but you've already changed your mind about
  143.       making it, WSGopher will delete the response to avoid a paradox.
  144.  
  145. ** Method of Payment
  146.     You may use WSGopher free of charge for thirty days; after that,
  147. WSGopher will automatically deduct $15.00 from your bank account.  This
  148. new form of payment is called "payware"; you never see an annoying
  149. message, and it keeps our costs down.
  150.     Government and educational users will continue to use WSGopher free
  151. of charge.

  153. ** Problem reporting
  154.     Use the Problem Report dialog in the Help menu to report any and
  155. all problems you may experience.  WSGopher will automatically mail it
  156. to the appropriate address, along with a $1.00 handling fee deducted
  157. from your bank account.

  159. ** Availability
  160.     WSGopher 6.0 is available for most personal workstation platforms
  161. beginning today, April 1, 1997.; FTP to ftp.wsgopher.com and get the
  162. file wsg-60.exe from pub/aprilfools.
