- I'm trying to set up the Windows Trumpet news reader.
- (Vital statistics: 486 PC, 14.4K Intel modem, SLIP
- connection using Trumpet Winsock). Most things work
- OK: I can read mail just fine, and I can subscribe
- to newsgroups. But when I try to index a newsgroup,
- it says "scanning..." and then sits there and does
- nothing, indefinitely. The cancel button doesn't
- work, either, and I can't get out of Trumpet. When
- I go ahead and exit Winsock, Trumpet goes nuts
- (naturally), and when it finally gets finished giving
- me error messages, I can see that the news has been
- partially indexed. At first I thought it was just
- incredibly slow, but I left it running for fifteen
- minutes on a low-volume newsgroup and it still wouldn't
- come back.
-
- Anyone had a problem like this?

-
- I don't want it on rtfm.mit.edu (yet). It is on the infoserver so people
- will get familliar with using the infoserver. I also like having it local
- so I can update it on the fly. It is a free document but not in the public
- domain. I give limited rights to copy it provided it is copied intact with
- - no - changes whatsoever.
-
- We are putting up our WWW server in the next few weeks. This document will
- be duplicated there with links to the FTP sites listed in it's body.
-
- The App. FAQ will always be available by email because email is more
- widely available than any other form of information service
- (FTP,WWW,Gopher,etc).
