  1. StealthPing 3.0 (TM) Installation Instructions:

  3. Before you install, extract all files into a temporary directory using WinZip(TM) or other archive
  4. extraction tool.  Do not install the program directly out of WinZip.
  5.  
  6. StealthSetup(TM) Can Be Run From either a Windows 95/98(TM)  or Windows 4.0(TM)  MS DOS box, or 
  7. from Start using run, or from the Windows Explorer.  If your running from a dos
  8. prompt, be sure to cd to the directory where StealthSetup.exe is located.
  9. Then type StealthSetup.exe <Enter>
  10.  
  11. After you start StealthSetup(TM) a dialog box will appear with the default directory 
  12. C:\STEALTHPING.  You can except this directory by simple clicking on the OK Button, or 
  13. you can type in a directory of your own choosing by selecting the edit control with your 
  14. mouse.  If you type a directory that can't be created, you will get an error dialog box 
  15. that indicates that StealthSetup(TM) is having problems copying files into this directory. 
  16. To recover from this error hit OK to acknowledge the dialog box, and run StealthSetup(TM) 
  17. again.  The next time, be sure to select a directory that can be created on an existing 
  18. drive.

  20. Shortcuts will be created on the Desktop and within the Start Button Menu.  Windows 95/98(TM)  
  21. will create the Icon in the Programs Folder, while Windows NT (TM)  4.0 will create it 
  22. directly within the Start Menu.  Typically StealthPing(TM)  is usually the first thing 
  23. that you start running after you connect to your ISP, so we tried to cut the mouse clicks 
  24. down to the minimum.

  29. Version 3.0 now allows you to run up to 25 multiple threads. This is the same
  30. as running 25 copies of Version 1.2. Each Click Of Start Thread, Will Start A New Thread.

  58. Using StealthPing
  59. =================
  60.  
  61. To Start StealthPing click on the StealthPing Icon either on the Desktop or in 
  62. the Start Menu.  The StealthPing Dialog Box will then appear in front of you.  
  63. StealthPing is most effective when it is used in the Stealth mode.  To use 
  64. StealthPing in Stealth mode, DO NOT move the Slider Control, simply Mouse Click 
  65. the Start Button and then minimize the Dialog Box. StealthPing is most effective 
  66. in keeping a PPP/SLIP Connection alive when it is used in Stealth mode.  Also, 
  67. it is least likely to be detected by PING sensor software on the other side of 
  68. the PPP/SLIP Connection. (Version 3.0 Allows Up To 25 Clicks Of The Start Button)

  70. Besides StealthMode(TM), StealthPing can be set to PING at a period rate by 
  71. moving the Slider Control.  The slowest ping rate is 15 seconds and the fastest 
  72. rate is 100 seconds.  If you set the ping rate on 15 seconds, you can look at 
  73. the SD light on your modem and you will notice that a packet is sent every 15 
  74. seconds.

  76. You can also move the slider to the other settings, 20, 40, 60, etc.  These 
  77. settings are close but not exact, however the granularity of the slider is 1 
  78. second, so it is possible to get 21,22,23 seconds etc., by experimenting.  If 
  79. you move the Slider all the way over to the left the ping rate will be returned 
  80. to Stealth mode.  Note - even after you have pressed Start it is still possible 
  81. to change the Ping Rate by simply moving the slider to the desired rate.

  83. If you are running StealthPing using a periodic rate, instead of Stealth mode 
  84. and you find that your PPP/SLIP connection is timing you out, move the Slider 
  85. all the way to the left and try running it in Stealth mode.
  86.  
  87. To manipulate the Slider Control's via the keyboard, press the Tab Key, until 
  88. the Slider is activated.  After the slider is activated the following keys will 
  89. manipulate the slider: (Arrow Keys,)(PgDn, PgUp,) (End, Home.)  After you have 
  90. selected the desired rate, Tab over to the Start Button and press Enter. Start 
  91. must be clicked before StealthPing will start to work. Note - The simplest 
  92. operation is with the mouse, but the keyboard option is there for your 
  93. convenience.

  95. UnInstalling StealthPing
  96. =================
  97. The simplest means to UnInstall StealthPing is to Start Windows NT Explorer or
  98. Windows Explorer and use it to find the StealthPing Directory and all of the
  99. StealthPing Shortcuts.  Simply click on My Computer, so you are at the this
  100. level of the hierarchy.  Go to the Tools Menu and select Find/Files or Folders.
  101. Enter StealthPing, so that all instances of directories and shortcuts will be
  102. found.  Select each instance that is located and use the Files/Delete 
  103. Menu to eliminate these files.

  105. We had a lot of fun writing StealthPing and when I connect to my PPP connection, 
  106. the first thing I do is start StealthPing.  At that point I can stay connected 
  107. for hours of hassle free surfing....
