- PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
-
- When you launch sMonitor it runs in the minimized mode with an icon at
- the system tray. First launched the program tries to write to the system
- registry. If an operating system does not allow to write to the registry it
- shows a warning message. If a task list includes pings the program tests
- whether a raw socket ping feature ( Winsock 2) is available. If not it shows
- a warning message.
-
- sMonitor starts to check services on servers automatically if there are
- previously entered entries. All settings are stored in the file smonitor.ini and
- the system registry.
-
- A server entry comprises the following fields:
- - server name,
- - IP address or host name,
- - timeout,
- - at least one task - ping or service name/port number.
-
- sMonitor checks ports using Transmission Control Protocol (TCP).
-
- Pings do not block multitasking and use a default TTL and the size of 64
- bytes. Since the program sends pings asynchronously it shows approximate
- round-trip times.
-
- When the program checks ports (sends pings) successfully it shows 'ok'
- (round-trip time). If a service does not exist or a host is unreachable or
- a test is timeouted the result will be 'Failed'
-
- You can change the following settings:
-
- - interval between sessions,
- - order of servers,
- - order of tasks,
- - second check if a service(ping) is failed,
- - table column width,
- - to beep or sound if the first in a current session service (ping) is failed
- (sMonitor changes an icon color automatically),
- - to send a message by e-mail *,
- - to generate a log file **,
- - to generate an HTML file ***.
-
- ____
- * A message contains an information about failed services ( pings) only.
- ** A log file contains an information about failed services (pings) and it's size
- is limited to 64 KB.
- *** This file mirrors an information shown by the program.
