  4. Most of the help is avaiable within the program
  5. by clicking HELP.

  8. ------------------ HELP ON SETTINGS -------------------------
  9. =============================================================
  10. If you have trouble with the settings of the program
  11. a short description of SETTINGS follows:
  12.  
  13. In the SITE field, enter a full site name
  14. such as : eagle.geocities.com
  15.       somewhere.someplace.com
  16.       123.456.789
  17.       etc.
  18.  
  19. In the USER and PASSWORD fields, enter your username
  20. and password such as :
  21.       harry123
  22.       ******
  23.       etc.
  24. This should be fairly self explanatory.
  25.  
  26. In the DIRECTORY field, enter a directory name
  27. such as : mydirectory
  28.           mydirectory/
  29.           mydirectory/files
  30.           mydirectory/files/
  31.           etc.
  32.  
  33. Make sure you don't include a slash before the initial directory
  34. name, this indicates the root account which you probably don't
  35. have access too.
  36.  
  37. Clicking on SAVE PASSWORD IN PREFERENCES indicates whether you
  38. want the password _also_ remembered in the preference file (along
  39. with the other fields you entered). This is so that each time you
  40. run the program, the fields are remembered and filled in for you.
  41. Some people wouldn't want the password stored in a file for security
  42. reasons.
  43. However, FTPDummy! includes password encryption in the data file
  44. so that you can not view the password.

  46. Once you're satisfied with the entry, click OK to save it.

  49. - Extra Features in v1.5 : SAVES MULTIPLE FTP SITES IN PREFERENCES -

  52. You can enter multiple sites by simply entering a new site name,
  53. user information, password and click OK.

  55. -- Selecting the Entries --
  56. To select the different sites, you can click on the pull-down
  57. button next to the SITE name field and it will list all the ftp sites
  58. you have entered.
  59. Once you select a site, the username, password, and other fields
  60. will fill in automatically to what you had them at before for that
  61. site. Any further changes you make will be saved once you hit OK in
  62. the settings.

  64. -- Adding a New Entry --
  65. If the site name field currently has something entered already (such as
  66. a previously selected ftp site) just begin typing over it and enter
  67. all the new information and then click OK. This will enter a new site into
  68. the preferences file as long as the site name is a new one.

  70. Likewise, to change any fields on an already existing entry, just select the
  71. entry from the pulldown, modify the fields such as the password, username, or
  72. directory, and then click OK. This will update the entry.

  74. -- Removing an Entry --
  75. Currently there is no Delete button for the ftp sites under the
  76. settings screen. Therefore, if you do want to erase some ftp sites,
  77. or just make a whole new list of sites, you'll have to delete the
  78. file called "uploader.dat" (the only file created by the program probably
  79. in the same folder as the program is). This will force the program to
  80. create a new one for you. Maybe the next version I'll add a delete
  81. key for it.

  83. I hope the controls for the Settings screen are easy to understand.
  84. If they are not, please LET ME KNOW and I'll change them so they _are_
  85. easy for all users to use.

  89. - Y2K Compliancy : FTPDummy! IS YEAR 2000 COMPLIANT (Y2K) -

  91. FTPDummy! has been updated to include a new Year 2000 and up
  92. data interface. If all goes well, the program should last well
  93. into the year 9999, then again, I suppose we'll all have evolved
  94. into something much wackier by then. :)
