  23. $20 per licence, with big discounts for large volumes.

  25. WFTPD is the only FTP server to be picked by PC Computing magazine as 
  26. one of their "Internet All-Stars Best 1001 Free Downloads From The 
  27. Web", and is registered in use at over 5000 sites (as of July 1998), 
  28. with tens, perhaps hundreds, of thousands of individual users. (See the

  32. WFTPD is also consistently the highest rated FTP server, with (for 
  33. example) 5 stars in the ZDNet Software library (http://www.zdnet.com), 
  34. 5 cows at The Ultimate Collection Of Winsock Software 
  35. (http://www.tucows.com) and 3.5 stars at the Stroud Consummate Winsock 
  36. Apps site (http://www.cwsapps.com).

  38. WFTPD is the only FTP server for Windows whose author is an active 
  39. member of the IETF FTP Extensions Working Group.  As such, many future 
  40. RFCs are implemented early in WFTPD, and in general more correctly.  
  41. For example, WFTPD is the only Windows FTP server to correctly 
  42. implement restarting of interrupted transfers - even those of our 
  43. competitors that claim to resume transfers do not correctly resume 
  44. uploads at the time of writing.

  46. Some of the new features recently added to WFTPD:

  48. o "Magic Cookies" - include time and date, user's name, disk space 
  49. remaining, etc, in greeting, farewell and navigational messages.
  50. o STAT command now supports file listing to the control connection
  51. o Shortcuts (.LNK files) are supported on 32-bit Windows, acting just 
  52. like symbolic links on Unix.
  53. o UNC (Unified Naming Convention) filenames are supported on 32-bit 
  54. Windows (Windows 3.1x support for UNCs will follow shortly)
  55. o Transfer statistics included in log file
  56. o Correct handling of numeric codes at the start of lines in message 
  57. output (even most Unix servers are not entirely RFC compliant in this 
  58. respect)
  59. o wildcard expansion inside path components
  60. o additional Windows 95, 98 and NT 4.0 user-interface features
  61. o activity monitor, allowing immediate disconnect of unruly users
  62. o safety shutdown - waits till users have finished before closing WFTPD

  67. These features have been in WFTPD for many versions now, and were 
  68. mostly introduced to the Windows FTP server market by WFTPD (space 
  69. prevents me from listing all features available):

  72. o may be installed as a service under 32-bit versions of Windows, and 
  73. will not be automatically killed when you log out
  74. o support for all applicable Unix 'ls' command-line switches - useful 
  75. (even vital) if you want your site to be mirrored using standard

  77. o strict compliance with Internet RFCs 959 and 1123, as well as several 
  78. draft RFCs.
  79. o extra FTP commands SIZE and MDTM supported
  80. o multi-homed site support
  81. o resume interrupted transfers (at the time of writing, WFTPD is the 
  82. only FTP server for Windows to correctly support resuming of both 
  83. interrupted uploads and downloads)

  89. o easy-to-read help file ("The first help file I read all the way 
  90. through", as one user told me)

  107. As the first standalone FTP server for Windows (now available for all 
  108. Intel versions of Windows, as well as Digital Alpha AXP Windows NT), 
  109. WFTPD has a long history of speed and stability.  As a fast, stable FTP 
  110. server, it is in place at major national and international Internet 
  111. Service Providers, phone service companies, software and hardware 
  112. manufacturers, tool shops, space agencies, Universities and even 
  113. Realtors' offices.  The author's writing style was so admired by even 
  114. his major competitors that some of them have felt compelled to cut and 
  115. paste from the WFTPD documentation into theirs.

  117. Despite the author working only part time for much of this product's 
  118. development, most of WFTPD's features were first offered to Windows 
  119. users by WFTPD, and many are even now not offered by other FTP servers 
  120. for Windows.  The author now works full time on developing and 
  121. supporting WFTPD, another advantage that is not present on many other 
  122. Windows FTP servers.
