  47. WINDOWS NT NOTES
  48. ================
  49.  
  50. 1. During the installation of MindSpring 4.0 the system may 
  51.    need to install Dial-Up Networking from your Windows NT CD-ROM.
  52.    To successfully install MindSpring 4.0 you will need to have 
  53.    your Windows NT CD handy.  
  54.  
  55.    When installing Dial-Up Networking, your system may indicate 
  56.    that the location of some files is "Unknown". You will find the
  57.    necessary files by navigating to the I386 directory of your 
  58.    Windows NT CD-ROM.
  59.  
  60. 2. During setup of RAS (Remote Access Setup) you will be prompted to
  61.    choose and setup your modem and Protocol (TCP/IP). You will need
  62.    to choose the modem that is installed in your computer, and choose
  63.    TCP/IP as the protocol.
  64.  
  65. 3. MindSpring Internet Software 4.0 has been optimized to run under
  66.    Service Pack 3 of Windows NT 4.0. If you run MindSpring 4.0 with
  67.    Service Packs 4, 5, and later, MindSpring 4.0 may not function
  68.    correctly.

  71. WINDOWS 95/98 NOTES
  72. ===================
  73.  
  74. 1. MindSpring Internet Software 4.0 will save your connection password.
  75.    However, if you connect using the MindSpring 4.0 connection found in
  76.    your Dial-Up Networking folder or using another application,
  77.    your password may not be saved.
  78.  
  79.    Microsoft Dialup Networking (DUN) does not save passwords in phonebook
  80.    entries on certain Win95/Win98 configurations.  Microsoft has
  81.    documented this problem, along with various fixes, in Knowledge Base
  82.    Article Q148925.  This article can be found at:

  86. 2. If you receive an error relating to either of the following files,
  87.    you should contact the vendor of your video card. Errors related to
  88.    these files indicate that a part of your video drivers is out of date.
  89.    The manufacturer of your video card may have updated drivers that you
  90.    can install to resolve this problem. These files are:
  91.  
  92.     V128IID.drv
  93.     GFXDRV.DRV
  94.    
  95.    If you cannot run MindSpring 4.0 because of errors related to these
  96.    files, you can still connect to MindSpring by using the
  97.    Dial-Up Networking component of Windows 95/98. For instructions about
  98.    connecting to MindSpring through Dial-Up Networking, call MindSpring
  99.    Technical Support.

  101. 3. The following error indicates that you need to associate the extension
  102.    ".htm" with an application that can read ".htm" files:
  103.  
  104.       "You don't have a program set up to view HTML files. You need 
  105.        to do so before you can view the MindSpring 4.0 Help Files. 
  106.        See the ReadMe.txt file in your MindSpring 4.0 directory for
  107.        more information."

  109.    To associate a program with ".htm" files
  110.     1. Open the MindSpring 4.0 directory on your hard drive.
  111.        To do this, double-click "My Computer", then "C:"
  112.        (if C: is the letter name of your hard drive), then
  113.        "Program Files" then "MindSpring 4.0".
  114.     2. Double-click the "Help" directory.
  115.     3. Double-click the file named "index.htm".
  116.        You will see the "Open With" dialogue window.
  117.     4. Make sure that the box that says "Always use this
  118.        program to open this file" contains a check mark.
  119.     5. Choose an application that can view HTML files.
  120.        * To choose Internet Explorer, select "iexplore"
  121.        * To choose Netscape Navigator, select "NETSCAPE"
  122.        If you do not have, or cannot find an application
  123.        that will let you view ".htm" files, please contact
  124.        MindSpring Technical Support.
  125.     6. Click "OK".
  126.  
  127.    "index.htm" will appear in the browser you selected. From now on,
  128.    your computer will use that browser to view all ".htm" files.
  129.    If you don't wish to read any Help Files at this time, you can safely
  130.    close your web browser.

  132. 4. Large Fonts may display improperly on some systems.
  133.  
  134.    MindSpring 4.0 has been designed to work with large fonts. However,
  135.    if you use "Large Fonts" for your system text you may notice some 
  136.    text in the program or during installation will be formatted incorrectly.
  137.  
  138.    This problem will not interfere with your connection to the Internet,
  139.    or the installation of MindSpring 4.0 and will cause no problems 
  140.    outside of the appearance of your MindSpring Internet Software 4.0.
  141.    To correct this problem, set your system fonts to "Normal" or "Small".

  144. UNINSTALLATION NOTES
  145. ====================
  146.  
  147. If any previous version of the MindSpring Internet Software
  148. would not run on your computer, you should uninstall
  149. the previous version before installing this version.
  150.  
  151. To uninstall a previous version of the MindSpring Internet
  152. Software, perform the following:
  153.  
  154. 1.  Choose "Settings" and then "Control Panel" from your Start menu.
  155. 2.  Double-click "Add/Remove Programs".
  156. 3.  Select "MindSpring Internet Software" from the list.
  157. 4.  Click the "Add/Remove" button.

  160. INSTALLATION AND SETUP NOTES
  161. ============================

  163. To set up the MindSpring Internet Software, perform the following:
  164.  
  165. 1.   Install the MindSpring Internet Software by running the Setup.exe
  166.      program from your MindSpring CD-ROM and clicking the 
  167.      Install software button.
  168. 2.   Enter your MindSpring Internet account information according to
  169.      the instructions provided on your screen.
  170.      *   You must already have an existing MindSpring account
  171.          in order to enter your account information manually.
  172.      *   To signup for a new MindSpring account online, you must have
  173.          Microsoft's Internet Explorer 3.02 or higher installed on your
  174.          computer.

  177. GETTING MORE INFORMATION AND HELP
  178. =================================
  179.  
  180. Assistance with your MindSpring Internet Software is available by
  181. clicking the "Help" buttons located in the MindSpring Internet
  182. Software interface. The online help is also available from the
  183. "Tell Me More" button on the connection screen of the MindSpring
  184. Internet Software.
  185.  
  186. The MindSpring User's Guide has been provided in PDF format on your
  187. MindSpring CD-ROM. It is located in the MANUAL directory and is named
  188. UsrGuide.pdf. To open this file, browse the CD-ROM using Windows Explorer
  189. and transfer the UsrGuide.pdf file to your hard drive.

  191. To view UsrGuide.pdf you must have installed Adobe Acrobat Reader, which
  192. is available on the MindSpring CD-ROM.
