  5. Here are my comments while creating this test:

  8. AR        This program will not accept wildcards, so archiving a whole
  9.           directory is not so easy.
  10.  
  11. ARI       Very slow.
  12.  
  13. ARJ       v2.42b (BETA_3 TEST release), no improvements in compression, or
  14.           any real improvements in speed, just cosmetic changes, with some
  15.           new features..
  16.  
  17. BSArc     I hope that I have used this program correctly, but the docs were
  18.           in Russian.
  19.  
  20. CRUSH     Crush is not really an archiver, it's a bit like TAR, where is
  21.           just stores all the files in one big file, and then lets another
  22.           archiver do the work.  Looks like you don't have to use UUC.EXE &
  23.           US.EXE now for UC2 useage with v1.8.
  24.  
  25. HA        Very slow.  But the latest beta version (v0.999b) is now even
  26.           quicker when extracting.
  27.  
  28. IZIP386   This works much better and quicker if QEMM is not loaded.
  29.  
  30. JARCHIVE  Will not accept wildcards with directory paths.
  31.  
  32. LIMIT     v1.2, seems to be slightly quicker when compressing, but slower
  33.           when extracting.

  35. NULIB     This program will not accept wildcards, so archiving a whole
  36.           directory is not so easy.
  37.  
  38. QUANTUM   Quantum really disagrees with QEMM, and would only work with QEMM
  39.           unloaded.
  40.  
  41. RAR       This latest beta version, has slighly quicker extraction times,
  42.           but the compression time is slightly slower.  For some reason the
  43.           -s 'solid' switch has got worse, and is now not an advantage to
  44.           use.

  46. SAR       This does not like paths in the command line.
  47.  
  48. SQWEZ     This program now creates .SQZ files as well as self-extracting
  49.           files.  Please note that this version of SQWEZ can have its
  50.           compression level altered, but you are unable to change this from
  51.           the command line.
  52.  
  53. UC        Latest BETA copy does have some minor compression improvements,
  54.           and now seems to be slightly quicker to compress.  The new
  55.           SuperOptimize options doesn't seem to give that much benefit for
  56.           the time it takes, but make sure you compress with -tst before
  57.           using the SuperOptimizer.
  58.  
  59. X1        Very good, keep an eye out for the final release, should knock the
  60.           spots of the other archivers.
  61.  
  62. YAC       This beta copy is very good, it has excellent compression for a
  63.           very good time tradeoff, can't wait for the final release!
