Using M.M.E.
------------
M.M.E. is an incredibly easy to use authoring package which comes with an
on-line help system included in this demo version. Simply move the
pointer to the area on the screen that you want help with and press
'help.' An explanation of the function and how it works will then appear.
M.M.E. is a page based authoring system. So that you can get to grips
with the basics of the program, there follows a brief description of how
to create a basic page within M.M.E. The full version of the program
comes complete with a ring bound manual containing tutorials and detailed
examples of page creation.
After installing M.M.E. and loading the program you will be faced with
the opening screen. First of all you need to create a new project as you
are starting from scratch. Click on the 'ADD PAGE' button.
M.M.E. recognises that this is the first page of a project and asks where
you would like your project to be stored and for you to name the project.
Type your projects name in the box next to the 'ACCEPT' button then click
'ACCEPT.'
IMPORTANT NOTE - MME forces you to keep all your media files in the same
directory your project is resident in. This means that
the files you wish to use within your project will have
to be copied to that directory. This is so that when the
project is published you will know that all your files
are present and correct within your projects directory.
You will then be faced with a blank page and the 'PAGE NAME' box will
have a number inserted. Click on this box, delete the numbers and type in
the name of your first page e.g. 'PAGE 1' and press RETURN
Click on the 'PAGE BOXES' icon. It is the square shaped icon just above
the 'M' in M.M.E. Then click on 'IMAGE' then 'ADD.' The panel will
disappear and you will be able to position your box on the screen.
After drawing out your box size you will be asked for the image to be
placed in it which can be any type of IFF file. If the image is not the
same size as the box you have drawn you will be asked if you want to snap
the box to the image size.
There are a variety of different box styles so try experimenting with
them to find your favorite.
The next step is to add a media clip to the box you have drawn so that
when your box is selected an action is performed. These actions can be
displaying a picture, playing an animation, playing a CDXL video file,
displaying another page within the project or playing a music module or
sound effect. In this case the action will be the playing of a sound
sample.
First highlight your box then click on the media clip icon (the square
shaped icon with the diagonal red, green and blue.) The panel will change
to display the events in the media clip along with associated
information.
Click ADD and you will see that an event named EMPTY is added and
highlighted.
To add your sample to this media clip, click with the left mouse button
on the left-most cross underneath EMPTY to highlight it. Hold down the
right button and a list of icons will appear underneath. Highlight the
loudspeaker icon and release the button.
Select the sound sample you wish to play and click ACCEPT.
The sample is now loaded and will be played when the button is selected.
To test this out click on the 'GO' button on the top right of the main
panel. You will be in the RUN TIME SIMULATION. Click on your box to test
out your media clip. To escape back to the main panel, press the space
bar.
Other types of media clips are accessed by holding down the right mouse
button then the pointer is positioned over the EMPTY box.
Try creating more boxes and experimenting with the different types of
media clip available as there are many more types and different ways in
which you manipulate them, far too many to go into in this brief
tutorial. The manual included with the full version explains in detail
how each media clip works and how you can manipulate them along with all
of the other functions of the program.
