  9.      MIME -- Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions

  15. DESCRIPTION
  16.      _M_I_M_E is the official proposed standard format  for  extended
  17.      Internet  electronic mail.  The MIME format permits email to
  18.      include enhanced text,  graphics,  audio,  and  more,  in  a
  19.      standardized  and  interoperable  manner.   If  you send and
  20.      receive mail with a MIME-compliant mail system, you will  be
  21.      able to send and receive far more than ASCII text.

  23.      Various different  people  and  companies  are  implementing
  24.      MIME-compliant  software.   This  man  page was provided, by
  25.      user request, as part  of  the  freely-available  "metamail"
  26.      distribution  from  Bellcore.   Metamail provides a complete
  27.      MIME implementation, but there may well be  others  at  your
  28.      site,  too.  The "SEE ALSO" section only refers to the tools
  29.      that came as part of the metamail distribution.
