  15. This document refers to shareware application 'Soccer ScoreSheet',
  16. version 8.  Extensive details are provided in the on-line help.  Without
  17. exception all rights to Soccer ScoreSheet belong in perpetuity to the
  18. authors.

  20. Note:  This document and contents and all other references shall at all
  21. times be subject to being superceded by a later version.  At all times
  22. the latest version of this application made publicly available by the
  23. authors shall take precedence, immediately cancelling and replacing all
  24. earlier versions and extents.  Please contact the authors to clarify and

  28. Overview
  29. ========
  30. 'Soccer ScoreSheet' is a Microsoft Windows (c)(r) application for the
  31. management of soccer league data.  It also comes complete with many
  32. features to assist football pools enthusiasts and syndicates.  All
  33. features are highly user-customisable to suit any soccer league or
  34. competition arrangement, at professional, amateur, world-wide, regional
  35. and local levels of the sport.

  37. If you evaluate this software and decide that it is not what you want
  38. because it lacks a feature that you would really like to see, please
  39. tell us - we may be able to help!  In the past many good ideas which
  40. have been implemented have come directly from user feedback - sometimes
  41. those ideas are turned around in just a day or two, to the surprise of
  42. our users!

  45. About Shareware
  46. ===============
  47. Many potential users equate shareware with another term - shoddyware.
  48. Doubtless there is software being distributed as shareware that gives
  49. the concept a bad name.  We believe you will quickly find with this
  50. application that it is of the highest quality.  We sincerely believe in
  51. providing both the best product AND the best support possible to all of
  52. our users!

  55. Target Audience
  56. ===============
  57. The target audience for this application falls into two main categories:
  58.  
  59. *  Those who have a regular need to manage and keep soccer league
  60.    statistical information up to date.  For example league coordinators,
  61.    club secretaries, or private individuals who keep their own
  62.    statistics.

  64. *  Those who regularly submit entries to football pools competitions who
  65.    need instant access to team form and past history.  This would also
  66.    include pools syndicates.

  69. Major Features - League Management
  70. ==================================
  71. *  Highly user-configurable league management.  Suitable for professional
  72.    or amateur league and/or competition systems (currently known to be
  73.    in use with several UK league clubs and organisations).

  75. *  Automatic league table generation from results entered, with
  76.    user-defined team sorting.

  78. *  Automatic match schedule generation for a complete season.

  80. *  Multiple user-configurable match categories to allow user to keep
  81.    track of league and non-league matches.

  110.    the Fixtures Dialog.

  113. Major Features - Pools Prediction
  114. =================================
  115. Note:  Many users do not make use of the prediction features because
  116. they have no need of these for their own requirements.  The prediction
  117. features are supplemental to the league management features.
  118.  
  119. The authors do not intend to misrepresent the capabilities of this
  120. application.  Whilst the use of this application MAY increase the
  121. chances of winning on football pools competitions, the authors do not
  122. make any such claim.  No computer program can be expected to reliably,
  123. consistently and accurately predict the outcomes of any sporting event
  124. prior to it having taken place.  The user must use their own judgement
  125. with regard to whether this software can help with predicting results.
  126.  
  127. *  Multiple user-configurable prediction algorithms to suggest most
  128.    likely result of matches yet to be played.  Each algorithm is based
  129.    wholly on statistical comparison of pertinent home/away team data.
  130.  
  131. *  Multiple perm support, allowing user to configure multi-column perm
  132.    arrangements and compare different perms across time.
  133.  
  134. *  Automatic data-update subscription service for registered users
  135.    (primarily for users with Email facilities).
  136.  
  137. *  Significant use of colour representation for prediction purposes.
  138.    Colours are user-definable.
  139.  
  140. *  Graphical analysis of predicted vs actual results.  User can define
  141.    result types (home, away, draw etc.), and date range.
  142.  
  143. *  Automatic pools-points accumulation and presentation (points awarded
  144.    for results types are user-configurable).
  145.  
  146. *  Graphical analysis of HOT and COLD pools coupon numbers, based upon
  147.    actual results achieved on the pools coupon over time.

  149. *  Automatic pools coupon population based upon users defined perm
  150.    and prediction arrangement.
  151.  
  152. *  Calendar functions are colour-coded to give immediate visual feedback
  153.    to the user about which fixture dates still have outstanding results
  154.    etc.

  157. Target Platforms
  158. ================
  159. Soccer ScoreSheet is provided as standard with two separate runtime
  160. executables, one a 16-bit application, the other a true 32-bit
  161. application. These executables target the following operating systems:
  162.  
  163.    *  Microsoft Windows 3.x
  164.  
  165.    *  Microsoft Windows 95/NT
  166.  
  167. The data (and other support) files used by this application are 100%
  168. compatible between these versions, allowing a user to migrate between
  169. versions at any time without loss of data.

  171.  
  172. Environmental Requirements
  173. ==========================
  174. For MS Windows 3.x a 386 PC (or better).  Recommended 8 megabytes RAM,
  175. and a 66MHz PC or better (will run on a minimally configured PC).
  176.  
  177. For MS Windows 95 a 386 PC (or better).  Recommended 16 megabytes RAM,
  178. and a 66MHz PC or better.
  179.  
  180. All installations require a minimum of 2 megabytes of hard disk space
  181. (not supported when run from a diskette or other removable media).

  183.  
  184. Licensing
  185. =========
  186. Soccer ScoreSheet is released under the shareware concept (the author is
  187. a member of the Association of Shareware Professionals).  The shareware
  188. version is fully functional and virtually unlimited for 45 days or 30
  189. hours of cumulative use to allow the user to fully evaluate the
  190. software.  On completion of the evaluation period the software will
  191. still operate, with some non-critical functionality becoming
  192. non-operational. Such functionality will be restored on registration.
  193.  
  194. During the evaluation period the user is provided with the right to use
  195. the software for evaluation purposes, without obligation to obtain a
  196. license.  However, once the evaluation period is over (45 days from
  197. installation or 30 hours use), this right is automatically revoked.
  198.  
  199. Licensing is provided on a named-individual basis only to help prevent
  200. possible fraud/illegal distribution.  Registration will NOT be carried
  201. out in the name of a club or other organisation.
  202.  
  203. The user is REQUIRED to obtain a license from the authors to allow
  204. continued use of the software on completion of the evaluation period, by
  205. payment of the requested fee (see the on-line help under 'Registration'
  206. for further information, from where a registration form can be printed).
  207. Acceptance of the registration fee by the authors will provide the user
  208. with the non-transferrable, non-exclusive and revokable permission to
  209. continue using this software, and both the user and authors shall be
  210. bound to the terms and conditions as expressed in the LATEST PUBLICLY
  211. AVAILABLE VERSION.

  213. WITHOUT EXCEPTION all rights to Soccer ScoreSheet and its extents,
  214. including but not limited to copyright and intellectual rights, belong
  215. to the authors in perpetuity - payment for registering this software
  216. does not under any circumstance transfer these rights.  Licensing is
  217. provided on a single-user basis only.  Full details and terms and
  218. conditions are contained within the on-line help under 'Registration'.

  220. Failure to obtain a license from the authors on completion of the
  221. evaluation period, or attempting to extend the evaluation period using
  222. methods not supported by the authors renders further use of the software
  223. an illegal activity on the part of the user.  Such activity will be
  224. subject to legal action if considered appropriate by the authors.

  227. Warranty
  228. ========
  229. Installation and/or use of this software is entirely at the users own
  230. risk.  With the sole exception of defective media (which shall be
  231. replaced without charge if notified within 15 days of shipment) THERE IS
  232. NO WARRANTY PROVIDED WITH THIS SOFTWARE.

  234. Any and all harmful and/or unexpected side effects of installing and/or
  235. using this software will be the sole responsibility of the person
  236. undertaking the installation and/or use.  Under no circumstance can the
  237. authors be held liable for consequential effects of installing/using
  238. this software.  Any claims for damages and/or harmful effects shall be
  239. limited to the maximum of a single registration fee.

  244. Registration Options
  245. ====================
  246. The user may choose from a number of options to facilitate registration.
  247. These options are explained in detail within the on-line help provided
  248. with the application (see under 'Registration').

  250. Options include cheque, cash and credit card.  On-line transactions can
  251. be carried out via an arrangement undertaken with the Public (software)
  252. Library.

  255. Registration Benefits
  256. =====================
  257. *  Latest version on a diskette, includes both Win3.x and Win95 versions.
  258.  
  259. *  The most up to date UK league table(s) the authors have available,
  260.    plus tables from previous seasons as available.
  261.  
  262. *  Personalised copy of the application, via user name/unique serial
  263.    number.  This will allow the user to personalise all future version
  264.    8's that may be released (it may roll over to version 9 or beyond at
  265.    the discretion of the authors).

  267. *  Database updates for users with Email facilities are available.  This
  268.    is a low-cost SUBSCRIPTION service (please contact the authors to
  269.    request further details).

  271. *  Free technical support from the authors (minimum of six months or
  272.    until the next major release, whichever comes sooner).

  274. *  The registered version will automatically populate the next season
  275.    detail at the end of a season
  276.  
  277. *  Registered version loads from/saves to an unlimited number of data
  278.    files.

  281. Support
  282. =======
  283. Technical support from the authors is available to all users.  For
  284. registered users this support shall be a minimum of six months from the
  285. date of registration, or until the next major release.  For
  286. non-registered users this support shall apply only to the evaluation
  287. period of the software (thus, maximum 45 days from first installation).
  288. Priority will be given to registered users at all times.
  289.  
  290. The authors will always provide their best efforts to resolve problems
  291. and/or bugs in a timely manner.
