  5. The ATI drivers will run on the following boards:
  6.    Graphics Ultra

  23.    IF you have 2M video mem and the aperture enabled:
  24.    640x480            32 bpp [16,777,216 colors]
  25.    640x480, 800x600, 1024x768    16 bpp [65,536 colors]

  27. The supported resolutions and pixel depths are conditional on
  28. there being enough memory on the card.    The pixel depth is
  29. conditional on the DAC type on the display adapter (see misc
  30. tips below).  If you choose a resolution that is not supported
  31. or your card has not been installed for, the miniport will
  32. substitute one that is.

  35. Installing the Driver

  40. + UnZIP the files provided and copy them to a blank, formatted
  41.   floppy disk, or path on your hard disk.
  42. + Boot Win NT, Logon as Administrator and run Windows NT Setup.
  43. + Select (O)ptions, (C)hange System Settings, (D)isplay and scroll
  44.   down to "Other (Requires a disk from a hardware manufacturer)"
  45. + Select desired resolution.
  46. + (Interim solution) Exit Setup and bring up a Command Window.
  47. + CD into %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\drivers
  48. + Rename vga.sys to vga.sav
  49. + Copy from floppy disk (or disk path) vga.sys
  50. + Reboot into desired mode !

  53. Reporting Problems

  56. + Check under Misc Tips before filing a bug.
  57. + Send in a bug just like you would for any other Win NT bug encountered.
  58.   Include in this report which card, monitor, video mode,
  59.   computer system (w/speed, ram) and setup option you are using.

  70. Known Problems to be solved in a future release
  71. ===============================================

  73. + DOS/Brief 3.1 in EGA/VGA mode only works with 25 lines when
  74.   in started in from a Command Window.    It works in full screen.
  75.   This problem is known and will be fixed in the following release
  76.   of Win NT.
  77.  
  78. + I/O Port conflict w/ UltraStor 24f driver.  This will be fixed
  79.   in the next release of Win NT.  An interim solution is to use
  80.   the VESA SVGA driver for those with this configuration.

  83. Misc Tips
  84. =========
  85.  
  86. ATI boards require a hardware install program (run under DOS via a
  87. floppy) that sets the monitor selections, refresh rate, etc.
  88. You should only have to use this if you are installing the card for
  89. the first time.
  90.  
  91. Hardware setup is necessary for enabling the aperture for the 32bpp
  92. and 16bpp modes.  ISA cards require 4M of aperture space below 16M.
  93. Local bus, EISA, and MicroChannel cards can have the aperture
  94. anywhere below 127M.  Other special boxes can have their apertures
  95. above 127M.  These special boxes usually have the chip on the mother
  96. board rather than a graphics adapter card.
  97.  
  98. The hardware install program guides the user through the hardware
  99. configuration process and will only allow the user to configure the
  100. aperture to memory address supported.

  103. If it doesn't initialize properly for the selected mode
  104. -------------------------------------------------------

  106. Please report this as a bug and include the following
  107. "blue screen" message displayed :
  108.  
  109. "ATI : accelerator not found"
  110. "ATI video driver:  Determining adapter configuration"
  111. "Unsupported video mode"
  112. or
  113. " x by y , n bits per pixel configured" ;
  114.  "x by y, n bits per pixel substituted"
  115.  
  116. "DAC does not support this mode"
  117.

  119. If you run setup and install for a high resolution mode, and
  120. upon booting Win NT, get 640x480 graphics - boot DOS and run
  121. the ATI DOS card install program to set the monitor parameters
  122. for a monitor that can handle high resolution graphics.

  124. Check the event log to see if the ati driver failed to load.

  127. It won't initialize properly on a machine w/ certain
  128. ----------------------------------------------------
  129. SCSI adapters, fax and modem cards.
  130. -----------------------------------

  132. We're looking into 3 cases of I/O port conflicts which cause
  133. the ATi NT driver to unload and result in booting in Standard
  134. VGA.  If you run into this, file a bug and let us know.  Be
  135. certain to include which adapters you have in your system and
  136. their configuration.

  139. Noticed blue screen changed to black with streaks while booting Win NT
  140. ----------------------------------------------------------------------

  142. This is normal behavior while the Win NT ATI driver is
  143. querying the adapter.
