- Adapters and Modes Supported
- ============================
-
- The ATI drivers will run on the following boards:
- Graphics Ultra
- Graphics Vantage
- 8514 Ultra
- Graphics Ultra Pro
- Graphics Ultra Plus
-
- Supported resolutions are: {640x480, 800x600, 1024x768 [256 colors]}
- Graphics Ultra
- Graphics Vantage
- 8514 Ultra
-
-
- Supported resolutions are: {640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024
- [256 colors]}
- Graphics Ultra Pro
- Graphics Ultra Plus
-
- IF you have 2M video mem and the aperture enabled:
- 640x480 32 bpp [16,777,216 colors]
- 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768 16 bpp [65,536 colors]
-
- The supported resolutions and pixel depths are conditional on
- there being enough memory on the card. The pixel depth is
- conditional on the DAC type on the display adapter (see misc
- tips below). If you choose a resolution that is not supported
- or your card has not been installed for, the miniport will
- substitute one that is.

- Installing the Driver
- =====================
-
- Installing a Driver
- -------------------
- + UnZIP the files provided and copy them to a blank, formatted
- floppy disk, or path on your hard disk.
- + Boot Win NT, Logon as Administrator and run Windows NT Setup.
- + Select (O)ptions, (C)hange System Settings, (D)isplay and scroll
- down to "Other (Requires a disk from a hardware manufacturer)"
- + Select desired resolution.
- + (Interim solution) Exit Setup and bring up a Command Window.
- + CD into %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\drivers
- + Rename vga.sys to vga.sav
- + Copy from floppy disk (or disk path) vga.sys
- + Reboot into desired mode !
-
-
- Reporting Problems
- ==================
-
- + Check under Misc Tips before filing a bug.
- + Send in a bug just like you would for any other Win NT bug encountered.
- Include in this report which card, monitor, video mode,
- computer system (w/speed, ram) and setup option you are using.
- E.G :
-
- Card : ATI Ultra
- Monitor : NEC 4D
- Video Mode : 800x600x256
- Computer System : Compaq Deskpro 386/20 (20MHz, 16M ram)
- Setup Option : ATI Ultra Accellerator 800x600, 256 colors

-
- Known Problems to be solved in a future release
- ===============================================
-
- + DOS/Brief 3.1 in EGA/VGA mode only works with 25 lines when
- in started in from a Command Window. It works in full screen.
- This problem is known and will be fixed in the following release
- of Win NT.
-
- + I/O Port conflict w/ UltraStor 24f driver. This will be fixed
- in the next release of Win NT. An interim solution is to use
- the VESA SVGA driver for those with this configuration.

- Misc Tips
- =========
-
- ATI boards require a hardware install program (run under DOS via a
- floppy) that sets the monitor selections, refresh rate, etc.
- You should only have to use this if you are installing the card for
- the first time.
-
- Hardware setup is necessary for enabling the aperture for the 32bpp
- and 16bpp modes. ISA cards require 4M of aperture space below 16M.
- Local bus, EISA, and MicroChannel cards can have the aperture
- anywhere below 127M. Other special boxes can have their apertures
- above 127M. These special boxes usually have the chip on the mother
- board rather than a graphics adapter card.
-
- The hardware install program guides the user through the hardware
- configuration process and will only allow the user to configure the
- aperture to memory address supported.
-
-
- If it doesn't initialize properly for the selected mode
- -------------------------------------------------------
-
- Please report this as a bug and include the following
- "blue screen" message displayed :
-
- "ATI : accelerator not found"
- "ATI video driver: Determining adapter configuration"
- "Unsupported video mode"
- or
- " x by y , n bits per pixel configured" ;
- "x by y, n bits per pixel substituted"
-
- "DAC does not support this mode"
-
-
- If you run setup and install for a high resolution mode, and
- upon booting Win NT, get 640x480 graphics - boot DOS and run
- the ATI DOS card install program to set the monitor parameters
- for a monitor that can handle high resolution graphics.
-
- Check the event log to see if the ati driver failed to load.
-
-
- It won't initialize properly on a machine w/ certain
- ----------------------------------------------------
- SCSI adapters, fax and modem cards.
- -----------------------------------
-
- We're looking into 3 cases of I/O port conflicts which cause
- the ATi NT driver to unload and result in booting in Standard
- VGA. If you run into this, file a bug and let us know. Be
- certain to include which adapters you have in your system and
- their configuration.
-
-
- Noticed blue screen changed to black with streaks while booting Win NT
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- This is normal behavior while the Win NT ATI driver is
- querying the adapter.
