This disc contains the Microsoft Windows Archive from CICA
(The Center for Innovative Computing Applications).

INSTALLING THE INFOMAGIC INTERFACE
To use the exclusive InfoMagic Interface you must have Windows 3.1
installed on your system. To install the InfoMagic Interface, run
the SETUP.EXE program in the root directory of Disc 1. This will
copy runtime files for the Microsoft Multimedia Viewer (approximately
1 MB) to your WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory, and the InfoMagic Interface
files (less than 1 MB) to a directory you specify. It will also
create a Program Manager group and icon for the application. Help is
available within the InfoMagic Interface.
NOTES ON RUNNING APPLICATIONS FROM THE CD
Due to the ISO-9660 naming restrictions which limit the use of
special characters in filenames, some files on the discs were renamed
(see Alias Notes below). When applications are either copied or
installed via the InfoMagic Interface, the original names are
restored. When you request to run a program directly from the CD,
the Interface determines if any files were renamed. If so, the
entire application is copied to the directory specified by the TEMP
environment variable. If TEMP is not defined, the application is
copied to a directory called CICA on the C drive.
NOTE: The InfoMagic Interface does not delete applications which it
has copied to the temporary directory, you must delete them yourself,
when the application is terminated.
ALIAS NOTES
The ISO-9660 Level 1 Specification restricts filenames to the
characters A-Z, 0-9, and "_". All non-conforming characters have
been replaced with "_". In every directory where filenames were
altered, we have included a file called _ALIASES.___ which lists the
original name and alias of affected files.
If you copy files directly from the CD (without using the InfoMagic
Interface), be sure to check for the alias file, and rename copied
files accordingly.
SHAREWARE
Some of the programs on the discs are Shareware. Although you have
purchased the discs, you have not paid for the Shareware programs.
Shareware programs which are used beyond the authorÆs prescribed
evaluation period require a separate payment to the author. This
payment is termed "registration", and gives you the legal right to
continue to use the software. Terms of registration vary from author
to author, but may also include a current version of the program
and/or a printed manual. For details, consult the registration
information included with each program.
GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE
Some programs on the discs are covered by the GNU General Public
License. This includes most Free Software Foundation software. The
License ensures that users are free to distribute copies of covered
software and to receive source code if desired. Source code for many
of the GNU tools is provided on the discs. Source code for any other
covered software may be obtained directly from InfoMagic on request
(there may be additional distribution fees). The GNU General Public
License is provided, in ASCII text format, in the file COPYING.GNU in
the root directory of Disc 1.
COPYRIGHTED MATERIALS
A number of the packages in the CICA archive are either copyrighted
or covered by licenses that explicitly restrict commercial
distribution. In these cases we have left the entries in the index
files and they will appear in the Interface with a notation that they
have been removed from the discs. Some examples of copyrighted
material include sound files of movie and television, PC Magazine
utilities, NCSA Mosaic, and Kermit from Columbia University.
