  7. The file you have downloaded, !KEL.EXE contains the complete 
  8. files from the Kelvin Install/Driver disk v1.21.  This readme 
  9. file contains instructions for making a Kelvin driver disk, so 
  10. you can install the drivers.  You have already completed the 
  11. first step, by unpacking the !KEL.EXE file and reading this.

  28. Using your Kelvin Drivers
  29. -----------------------------

  31. 1.  Copy all files (listed above) to a blank high density floppy
  32.     disk.
  33.  
  34. 2.  Log onto your floppy drive and run the KINSTALL.EXE program          
  35.     install the driver files to your hard drive.  You should run 
  36.     KINSTALL.EXE from DOS, not from Windows.
  37.  
  38. The KINSTALL.EXE program is menu driven, and fairly self 
  39. explanatory.  The KINSTALL menu helps you install drivers for a 
  40. variety of different applications.  If you have questions during 
  41. any part of the installation process, press the F1 key for 
  42. context sensitive help, or see your Kelvin manual for more 
  43. information.

  47. Changes in this Release
  48. -----------------------
  49. This release should fix printing problems from Windows with 
  50. Hewlett Packard Desk Jet printers, and various model Epson 
  51. printers.  The fix has not been confirmed on Canon Bubble Jet 
  52. printers.

  54. This release fixes a problem with button faces in Lotus Organizer 
  55. for Windows.

  59. Known Shortcomings in this Release
  60. ----------------------------------

  62. 1. All Kelvin models (except ISA as noted below) currently only 
  63.    offer 43.5Hz interlaced for the 1280x1024x16 color resolution.
  64.    The 256 color option (available on 2MB boards) does support 
  65.    60Hz non-interlaced.
  66.  
  67. 2. The Windows "HELP" file for Kelvin 64-ISA control Panel 
  68.    mentions "FONT Cache" and "800x600x16M color mode".  These 
  69.    options are currently not available/supported.

  71. 3. The Kelvin 64-ISA only offers 43.5Hz interlaced for the 
  72.    1280x1024 16 and 256 color resolutions.

  74. 4. The Kelvin 64-ISA currently does not offer 800x600x16.7M color 
  75.    mode (ETA unknown).

  79. Troubleshooting
  80. ---------------
  81. The most common question the Orchid Technical Support department 
  82. gets regarding installation of Windows drivers is from people who 
  83. have installed the drivers using KINSTALL, yet when they go into 
  84. the Windows Control Panel the Kelvin driver icon doesn't show up.  
  85. This problem is almost exclusively caused by memory managers 
  86. loaded in your config.sys file.  If you're using QEMM or EMM386 
  87. (or a similar type of memory manager),  you need to exclude the 
  88. Kelvin's RAM and ROM memory area so your memory manager doesn't 
  89. try to use that area.  The syntax for EMM386 and QEMM is to add 
  90. the statement  X=A000-C7FF  to the EMM or QEMM setup line in your 
  91. config.sys file.  If you are using QEMM's "Stealth" feature (ST:M 
  92. or ST:F), you also need to add the statement XST=C000 to your 
  93. line in config.sys.  Then reboot, and look for the icon in 
  94. Windows.  If you use QEMM, it may be necessary to re-run the 
  95. Optimize program after adding the Kelvin exclusions.
