============================= README.TXT ===============================
Welcome to the August, 1994 edition of the Walnut Creek CICA for MS
Windows CDROM!
This disc contains the Microsoft Windows Archive from CICA (The Center for
Innovative Computing Applications).
==========================================================================
Here is a list of some important files and directories:
view.exe A Windows file viewer for the index files.
dosview.exe A DOS file viewer for the index files.
index.txt A list of all files with descriptions.
dirs.txt A list of the directories with descriptions.
vbrun?00.dll Visual Basic run time library.
utils\ Utilities for unzipping files.
win3\ The Cica Windows collection.
_bbs\ Index files and programs for bbs use.
docs\ Directory of documentation files
==========================================================================
To use this disc, you will need to unarchive the compressed programs
on the CDROM to your hard disk.
To make browsing the disk easier, we have included the VIEW program
for Windows in the root directory of the CDROM. This program allows
you to page through the index files and then unarchive the program(s)
you want onto your hard disk.
In order to start up the VIEW program, do one of the following:
1) From the Program Manager, choose the RUN option under the FILE
menu, then enter "D:VIEW" at the run option bar. (Substitute your
CDROM drive letter for "D" if it is different.)
2) From the File Manager, click on the icon for your CDROM drive near
the top of the window, then double click on the VIEW.EXE icon on the
right hand side of the window.
You can install the VIEW program onto your hard drive, if you wish.
To do so, open up File Manager, click on your CDROM drive icon, then
drag the VIEW.EXE icon to whichever Program Manager program group you
wish. (Windows will tell you that the icon may not be available
later, but this is OK; it's just warning you that VIEW.EXE will not
work if the CDROM is not present.) You can now run VIEW from your
hard drive.
To get help for VIEW.EXE, start up VIEW.EXE then drag the HELP menu
down to "Index."
==========================================================================
Please refer to the file \DOCS\DOSVIEW.DOC for documentation on using
the DOSVIEW program. (The DOSVIEW program will allow you to
uncompress files from the hard drive under MSDOS.)
==========================================================================
To install a program you uncompressed onto your hard drive from the
CDROM so it displays an icon in your applications group, you can do
one of two things:
1) First select Windows Setup in the Main Group.
Then select Options in the menu bar.
Select Set Up Applications.
Select Ask You to Specify An Application.
Type the path and name of the program you'd like to install.
Windows setup will copy the program's icon into the Application
Group and set up the program to run from the icon.
For example, to make an permanent icon for boxworld after copying
it with VIEW you would type:
c:\win3\games\boxworld\boxworld.exe
into the "Specify An Application" box.
2) Start up File Manager, then locate the executable program (which
usually ends in .EXE or .COM) you wish to install.
Drag that program icon to your Applications porogram group inside
your Program Manager window, then release the mouse button. The icon
will now be in your Applications window, and the program can now be
run from that icon.
==========================================================================
Some applications require vbrun100.dll, vbrun200.dll, or
vbrun300.dll. These files are provided in the the root directory of
the CDROM.
==========================================================================
Although you may own this disc, you do not own the programs recorded
on it. Many of the programs on this disc are shareware. You are
free to try each program for a limited amount of time. If you are
satisfied, and want to continue to use the program, you are required
to register the program by sending a specified amount of money
directly to the author of the program. Often the author will send
you the most up to date version of the program and a printed manual.
Please check the individual files for specific information. Please
help support shareware by contributing to these authors. They make
discs like this possible.
