  1. Welcome to Aporia!
  2.  
  3. Aporia is a powerful object oriented user interface for Windows 2.x and
  4. 3.0.  It lets you organize your work simply and clearly by providing a
  5. variety of advanced features that make its icon interface really work.
  6.  
  7. The heart of Aporia is the concept of tools.  A tool is not just a
  8. pretty picture, it also has enhanced abilities.  It can be dropped onto
  9. another to be run, or chained together to form a new tool.  A tool can
  10. store other tools letting you run multiple programs with one mouse
  11. click.  A tool can size and position the programs it runs.  And, tools
  12. are fully integrated into a powerful file management scheme.

  14. Windows 3 is great and Aporia is a powerful enhancement to the Windows 3
  15. environment.

  18. Aporia Can Do Things That The File And Program Manager Can't.

  22. INSTALLING and RUNNING Aporia
  23. -----------------------------

  25. From the Aporia floppy disk run the program:
  26.   SETUP_AP.EXE  
  27. This program installs and sets up Aoria for first-time users 
  28. and for those updating from earlier versions of Aporia. 
  29. This program copies Aporia to your Windows directory, and 
  30. for Windows 3 users installs a library of images and can 
  31. make Aporia your shell (replacing the Program Manager).
  32.  
  33. To run Aporia under Windows:
  34. ----------------------------
  35. If you choose to install Aporia as the Windows shell just run
  36. Windows as you normally do and Aporia will come up automatically.

  38. If you have not installed Aporia as the Windows shell at the 
  39. DOS prompt type:

  68. APORIA DISTRIBUTION FILES

  71.   SETUP_AP.EXE  The Setup program for Aporia. This program copies Aporia
  72.                 to your Windows directory, and for Windows 3 users
  73.                 installs a library of images and can make Aporia your
  74.                 shell (replacing the Program Manager).

  83.                 contains everything you need to use Aporia. The
  84.                 printed version, available with the $50 registration,

  87.   APORIA.INT    This is the tutorial section of the manual in
  88.                 Microsoft Write format.  It takes you step by step
  89.                 through the basic operation of Aporia. It is available
  90.                 online when you double-click on the Help Tool, which is
  91.                 the icon with the question mark.

  93.   NOTES.TXT     The default Aporia note file.

  95.   CHANGES.TXT*  A list of changes in this release.

  97.   AP_READ.ME*   This important information text that you are currently

  107.                 in 16 color EGA, VGA, and SuperVGA display
  108.                 modes under Windows 3.

  110.   AIF_256.EXE   This is a self extracting compressed file
  111.                 containing Aporia image files for the basic
  112.                 Aporia tools and for programs supplied with
  113.                 Windows 3.0. This file contains image files
  114.                 for use systems running in 256 color SuperVGA 
  115.                 display modes under Windows 3.

  117.   APORIA.GRP    A Program Manager group file for Aporia.
  118.  
  119.   AP_ICONS.EXE  Self extracting file containing the icons for
  120.                 the basic Aporia tools in Windows 3.0 icon
  121.                 (ICO) format.

  123. Note that some of the above files (marked with *) are user manual and
  124. introductory text. If you are short on disk space, you might want to
  125. delete them, from your Windows directory after you have become
  126. acquainted with Aporia.

  129. TO GET ON-LINE HELP FOR APORIA:
  130. -------------------------------

  132. Put the mouse cursor on the question mark icon (the Help tool) and 
  133. click twice quickly with the left mouse button. To get help on 
  134. any of the Aporia tools (icons) drag them onto the Help tool.

  137. LATE BREAKING PROGRAM INFORMATION
  138. ---------------------------------
  139. The following useful information in not included in the user manual.
  140.  
  141. * Creating your own icons with Paintbrush:
  142.   Here's an easy way to create your own icons using Paintbrush and the
  143.   Image Maker program supplied with Aporia.
  144.      1. Run both Paintbrush and Image Maker.
  145.      2. From the Paintbrush Options menu select the Image Attributes 
  146.         command and set the image size to 33 by 33 PELS.
  147.      3. From the Paintbrush File menu select the New command.
  148.      4. Draw your icon in the Paintbrush window.
  149.      5. In Image Maker select the Capture Icon command and click the mouse
  150.         over your the icon you drew in Paintbrush.
  151.      6. Your icon will appear in Image Maker and then can be saved to
  152.         an Aporia image file.
  153.    
  154. * Problems installing on 3Com networks:
  155.   Some users have had problems running the Aporia setup program on some
  156.   3Com networks. If you are running on a 3Com network and have problems
  157.   with the setup program trying running it while you are NOT logged on
  158.   to the network. Once setup has run Aporia should work fine with your
  159.   network.

  161. * Registered users can specify text to appear when the screen blanker
  162.   is up in place of their registration name. To do this enter the
  163.   following line in the Aporia section of your WIN.INI file:
  164.      BlankName=<text>
  165.   Where <text> is the text you want displayed. For example if you work
  166.   for Acme Scrub Brush Ltd. you could add the line:
  167.      BlankName=Acme Scrub Brush Ltd.
  168.   This feature is NOT available for unregistered users.
