  30.     This program is provided to users of FUJITSU DL printers to enable 
  31.     them to configure the printer to suit their requirements, and to 
  32.     enable this function to be performed directly from the keyboard  
  33.     of the users PC, as an alternative to using the printers normal 
  34.     paper based menu setup built into the printer. 
  35.

  38.    * PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
  39.    ──────────────────────
  40.  
  41.     This program is intended to run on any IBM PC/XT/AT or compatibles 
  42.     running DOS 2.20 or higher, it will run on any 80 column screen & 
  43.     requires at least one floppy drive. 
  44.  
  45.     The program loads & runs in about 50Kb of ram. 
  46.     
  47.  
  48.     Version 2.2 is now Dos 5.0 compatible. See page 13 for details on  
  49.     how to install in upper memory.

  65.     * INSTALLATION
  66.     ──────────────
  67.     
  68.     To install the program only requires that the 7 files are copied 
  69.     to the users chosen directory, the files provided are as follows -
  70.  
  71.         1)      INSTALL.BAT     - run this to automatically install
  72.  
  73.         2)      DLMENU.EXE      - the main program 
  74.  
  75.         3)      DLMENU.HLP      - the help file texts
  76.  
  77.         4)      DLMENU.IDX      - the index into the help texts
  78.  
  79.         5)      DLCFG.EXE       - the config program
  80.  
  81.         6)      DLMENU.CFG      - the config file
  82.  
  83.         7)      DLCFG.CFG       - config file for the config program
  84.  
  85.         8)      DLMENU.ICO      - A Windows 3 Icon for DLMENU
  86.  
  87.         and     DLMENU.MAN      - this file you are reading now

  90.     At this point DLCFG should be run to select the various options 
  91.     which are fitted to your specific printer & PC. 
  92.  
  93.     Select 'First Time Installation'.
  94.  
  95.     You will then be prompted to select the printer that you will be 
  96.     using and press ENTER. 
  97.  
  98.     Then indicate the options installed on your printer. Use the 
  99.     CURSOR LEFT & RIGHT keys to toggle the options on or off, press 
  100.     ENTER when the correct option state is displayed on screen.

  103.     Next you will be presented with a list of the available ports on 
  104.     your system, you should indicate which one you have connected your 
  105.     FUJITSU printer to, by using the cursor keys & pressing ENTER on 
  106.     the required option.

  110.     If you are running DOS version 2.xx DLCFG will also prompt you for 
  111.     the correct path to DLMENU.EXE so that the program can find its 
  112.     help files etc.

  130.    * RUNNING THE DLMENU PROGRAM
  131.    ────────────────────────────
  132.  
  133.     The DLMENU program can be used in one of three modes, these are as 
  134.     follows -
  135.  
  136.     1)  Normal standalone operation 
  137.  
  138.     Type DLMENU at the ready prompt, and the DLMENU program will be 
  139.     loaded ready for you to start configuring the printers setup, once 
  140.     the required changes have been made they may be sent to the 
  141.     printer, and on exiting the program you are returned to the 
  142.     command ready level ie  c:>  for example. 
  143.  
  144.  
  145.     
  146.     2)  Memory resident (TSR) operation
  147.  
  148.  
  149.     Typing DLMENU /RES at the ready prompt will cause the DLMENU 
  150.     program to be loaded into the computers memory in background mode. 
  151.     To activate the program at any time just press the HotKey 
  152.     combination ALT+LeftShift+D and the DLMENU program will popup on 
  153.     to the screen; then alter the printer current settings. On 
  154.     updating the printer and exiting the program you will be returned 
  155.     to the application you where using before you popped up the 
  156.     DLMENU. In this mode the program will use about 49Kb of dos 
  157.     memory. 
  158.  
  159.     Note 1:
  160.     If you make any changes using DLCFG and you have a copy of DLMENU 
  161.     resident in memory then you should unload (/REM) and reload DLMENU 
  162.     (/RES) or reboot the PC to ensure that the changes you have 
  163.     requested are activated. 
  164.     
  165.     Note 2:
  166.     DLMENU will not popup over graphic applications or if a higher 
  167.     priority function is in progress, a warning bleep will sound. You 
  168.     should retry the PopUp a short time later or when not in a graphic 
  169.     screen mode. 
  170.       
  171.     Note 3:
  172.     When unloading DLMENU using the /REM option, the memory used by 
  173.     DLMENU will only become available if DLMENU was the last memory 
  174.     resident program loaded, otherwise it will remain inactive in 
  175.     memory until such time as it does become the last memory resident 
  176.     program, or the PC is rebooted, when the memory will become 
  177.     available again. 
  178.     Note 4:
  179.     When used in TSR (Memory resident mode) the default HotKey which 
  180.     causes DLMENU to pop up is defined to be ALT+LeftShift+D. This may 
  181.     however cause some conflict with other TSR programs, you may 
  182.     change the HotKey using DLCFG.

  191.     3)  Batch file auto printer config
  192.  
  193.     After using the DLMENU program for a while, you may like to build 
  194.     up a library of CFG files which configure the printer to suit the 
  195.     different applications you use. The DLMENU program can then be 
  196.     used from within a batch file (or the command line) to download 
  197.     the required printer setup. 
  198.     
  199.     The command line is as follows -
  200.  
  201.         DLMENU LOTUS123.CFG
  202.  
  203.     Where the file LOTUS123.CFG is a renamed/copied version of 
  204.     DLMENU.CFG 
  205.  
  206.     Note that the DLMENU program only ever generates CFG files with 
  207.     the name DLMENU.CFG, however it is a simple matter to copy the 
  208.     relavent CFG file to a file with a name which reflects the 
  209.     application it is intended to work with.

  214.     * MONO DISPLAY ADAPTORS
  215.     ───────────────────────
  216.  
  217.     DLMENU will automatically detect that it is using a MDA/HGC 
  218.     adaptor, but if you are using some other graphics adaptor with a 
  219.     mono display you may need to use the /MONO command line option, to 
  220.     force the display to be readable on your monitor. 
  221.  
  222.     NOTE: /MONO must be the last option on you command line.
  223.  
  224.         ie       DLMENU /RES /MONO  or  DLMENU /MONO
  225.

  229.     A list of all of DLMENU's command line options can be obtained by 
  230.     typing DLMENU /HELP at the normal dos prompt.

  253.     * USING THE PROGRAM
  254.     ───────────────────

  256.     Once the DLMENU program is loaded, the main menu is presented at 
  257.     the bottom of the screen as below (dependant on Printer model) - 
  258.  
  259.       PANEL  MENU 1  MENU 2  HARDWARE  TOF  DEFAULT  LIST  SAVE EXIT
  260.     
  261.     At this point you may move the flashing cursor along to the 
  262.     subject which you wish to edit using the CURSOR LEFT & RIGHT keys 
  263.     then press ENTER to select that item, or you can also select items 
  264.     by pressing the first letter of an options name and then pressing 
  265.     ENTER. 
  266.  
  267.     The options presented reflect exactly those presented when using 
  268.     the printer in its normal setup mode (Holding down MODE during 
  269.     power up) 
  270.  
  271.     Before selecting an item, a short explanation of the items use can 
  272.     be viewed by pressing the function key F1 
  273.  
  274.     
  275.     By pressing the F2 key a short resume of the valid keys at any 
  276.     point within DLMENU may be obtained. 
  277.  
  278.     
  279.     By pressing the F3 key a menu which will allow direct control over 
  280.     the printers paper source etc. Refer to DIRECT PRINTER CONTROL 
  281.  
  282.  
  283.     To quickly switch emululations the F4 key will pop up a menu box
  284.     which will allow an emulation to be selected by pressing a 
  285.     function key, this causes the printer to select that emulation
  286.     within the printers MENU 1 (the power on default menu), and also 
  287.     sets the MENU 1 within DLMENU to that same emulation, ready to 
  288.     accept any other changes that may be required.

  293.     Once an item has been selected, the sub menu is displayed; this 
  294.     consists of all the normal printers setup items & options and 
  295.     their current settings. If this is the first time you have run the 
  296.     program, all the items will be set to their default state as 
  297.     indicated by the asterisk against each option. Also displayed at 
  298.     the bottom of the sub menu is a single help line relavent to the 
  299.     current item.

  315.     At this point the following keys are active -

  318.     CURSOR DOWN           - Move flashing cursor to next item

  320.     CURSOR UP             - Move flashing cursor to previous item

  322.     CURSOR LEFT & RIGHT   - Select different options for current item
  323.     
  324.     F1                    - Get further help on current item
  325.  
  326.     F2                    - Get help on valid keys

  328.     F5                    - Set current item to its default state
  329.

  331.     F6                    - Display all possible options for current 
  332.                             item
  333.  
  334.     F9                    - Accept current settings & send to printer
  335.  
  336.     F10                   - Send current settings to the printer 
  337.                             and using the MENU 1 or MENU 2 function
  338.                             select that MENU on the printer
  339.  
  340.     ESC                   - Return to main menu
  341.  
  342.     TAB                   - Move flashing cursor to opposite column
  343.  
  344.     HOME                  - Move flashing cursor to start of sub menu
  345.  
  346.     END                   - Move flashing cursor to end of sub menu
  347.  
  348.     PgUp                  - Move flashing cursor to top of column

  350.     PgDn                  - Move flashing cursor to bottom of column
  351.

  353.     Once the required changes have been made in each sub menu as 
  354.     required, the printer should be updated using the function key F9. 
  355.     This causes the entire currently displayed sub menu to be sent to 
  356.     the printer so that the new options can take effect. Should you 
  357.     wish to go to another sub menu without updating the printer use 
  358.     the ESC key.

  377.     If the printer should beep during the update (F9/F10) function, 
  378.     then an invalid selection has been made, carefully check the on-
  379.     screen menu for the following types of error -
  380.  
  381.      DLMENU - Installed for incorrect printer type or invalid options
  382.     
  383.      FONT  - Set to a non resident font - reselect or install font card.
  384.  
  385.     At this point the new values have been set on the printer, and you 
  386.     are presented with the main menu again, at this point you may wish 
  387.     to simply EXIT the program leaving the printer settings as 
  388.     temporary, or to SAVE the settings which will cause the printer to 
  389.     store its current settings into permanent memory so that they will 
  390.     take effect next time the printer is switched on.

  392.     
  393.     NOTE
  394.  
  395.     Depending on the options selected using DLCFG some of the sub menu 
  396.     items may appear 'greyed out' ie not bold, these options are not 
  397.     valid for the current configuration of the printer. and as such 
  398.     cannot be selected or edited. 
  399.

  401.  
  402.     When SAVEing, the information is also written out to the CFG file 
  403.     - DLMENU.CFG, so that when you reload the menu program on some 
  404.     subsequent occasion the DLMENU programs settings will reflect 
  405.     those stored in the printer. Of course, making changes using the 
  406.     normal printer setup function will cause the data in the CFG file 
  407.     and that stored in the printer to be different. 
  408.

  410.     Once the printer has had both menus set to the users requirements, 
  411.     the printer is ready for use.

  439.     DLMENU provides several methods which allow the active menu on the 
  440.     printer to be selected, by default the printer will always power 
  441.     up in Menu 1. 
  442.  
  443.     1. Command line method
  444.     
  445.     DLMENU will accept the following command line options to enable 
  446.     the required printer menu to be activated, this may be of use in 
  447.     batch file applications. 
  448.     
  449.                        DLMENU /MENU1 or DLMENU /1
  450.  
  451.                        DLMENU /MENU2 or DLMENU /2
  452.  
  453.     2.  Sub Menu method
  454.  
  455.     When making changes to the options within either MENU1 or MENU2 by 
  456.     choosing to update the printer using the F10 key rather than the 
  457.     normal F9 key will cause the printer to update its own menu 
  458.     settings and also select that menu as the active menu on the 
  459.     printer. 
  460.         
  461.     3.  Direct printer control
  462.  
  463.  
  464.  
  465.     This menu is available from the main menu by pressing the F3 key, 
  466.     a box will pop up offering the following options :-
  467.  
  468.

  481.     fitted with the HCPP option.

  504.     When using this program under Dos version 2.xx it is necessary to 
  505.     set up an environment string using the SET command, to inform the 
  506.     DLMENU program where its associated files are stored. 
  507.  
  508.     Suppose that you have decided to store DLMENU.EXE and its help 
  509.     files etc in the directory c:\utils\printer, you should then add 
  510.     the following command to your autoexec.bat file 
  511.  
  512.                 SET DLMENU=c:\utils\printer\dlmenu.exe
  513.  
  514.     If you run DLCFG.EXE, this will prompt you for such a string and 
  515.     make the required entry into your autoexec.bat file 
  516.  
  517.  
  518.     If you don't do this DLMENU will fail with an error #003 fault.

  563.     * ERROR MESSAGES
  564.     ────────────────
  565.     The following error messages may be produced when running the 
  566.     DLMENU program := 
  567.  
  568.  
  569.     ERROR - #001
  570.    
  571.     While trying to install as a TSR the DLMENU program detected 
  572.     another TSR (also using the TeSRact TSR standard library) loaded 
  573.     which has the same Hot Key combination to activate it. 
  574.  
  575.     ERROR - #002
  576.     
  577.     While trying to install as a TSR the DLMENU program was unable to 
  578.     stay resident for a number of reasons - most common would be not 
  579.     enough memory. 
  580.  
  581.     ERROR - #003 
  582.     
  583.     The program is being run under DOS Version 2.xx, This version of 
  584.     DOS cannot report to an application the full path name which was 
  585.     used to load that application. The DLMENU program needs this 
  586.     information to access the Help files and the CFG files. So under 
  587.     DOS 2.xx the user must set up an environment variable that 
  588.     describes where the program is, as follows -
  589.  
  590.     Suppose the DLMENU program and its files are located in the 
  591.     directory c:\utils\printer 
  592.  
  593.     The following command should be inserted into the systems 
  594.     autoexec.bat file 
  595.  
  596.                 SET DLMENU=c:\utils\printer\dlmenu.exe 
  597.  
  598.     DLCFG will preform this task for you.
  599.  
  600.  
  601.     To check the current settings of the environment variables type 
  602.     'SET' at the dos prompt and the current values will be displayed. 
  603.                                                  
  604.     CAN'T READ CFG FILE
  605.     CAN'T WRITE CFG FILE
  606.  
  607.     The CFG file is either missing or corrupted in some way. In this 
  608.     case you should run DLCFG again to re-create the CFG file. See 
  609.     INSTALLATION.

  625.     INVALID CFG FILE
  626.  
  627.     The DLMENU program checks the contents of the CFG file before 
  628.     attempting to download it to the printer or to update the programs 
  629.     variables. 
  630.  
  631.     For a CFG file to be valid the first 6 bytes must contain the 
  632.     string "DLMENU" 
  633.  
  634.     The DLMENU program also checks the revision number of the CFG file 
  635.     before using it. 
  636.  
  637.     Any mismatch between the files revision and the revision expected 
  638.     by the program is a fatal error and the program aborts. 
  639.  
  640.  
  641.     If this error occurs. You should re-create the CFG file by running 
  642.     DLCFG again ( see INSTALLATION ) 
  643.  
  644.  
  645.     MISSING HELP FILES (*.hlp,*.idx)
  646.  
  647.     The DLMENU program has been unable to locate the files required to 
  648.     implement the help system, the program will continue to function 
  649.     as normal except that pressing F1 or F2 will have no effect & one 
  650.     or two other help related screen texts will be unavailable. 
  651.     
  652.     The .hlp & .idx files must be stored in the same directory as the 
  653.     DLMENU program itself, if this is already the case then the files 
  654.     must be damaged in some way and should be reloaded from the master 
  655.     disk. 
  656.  
  657.     If running under DOS 2.xx ( type VER at ready prompt ) then you 
  658.     should check that the SET DLMENU=c:\..... is pointing to the 
  659.     correct directory and is terminated with the correct program name. 
  660.     See ERROR - #003 above.

  694.     Please be aware of the following limitations in connection with 
  695.     the use of DLMENU with varying printer firmware revisions.
  696.  
  697.         DL1100
  698.  
  699.     This product cannot support the remote switching of emulations 
  700.     (MENU1 & 2 First item) on printers with firmware prior to revision 
  701.     05E 
  702.  
  703.     Symptoms
  704.  
  705.     What happens is - you are able to use DLMENU to switch into the 
  706.     other emulations but once there, no commands are accepted, ie all 
  707.     requests by DLMENU ie F9 + F10 keys will cause overprinted text to 
  708.     be printed. 
  709.  
  710.  
  711.  
  712.  
  713.         DL4400 & DL4600
  714.  
  715.     These products cannot support remote setup at all on printers 
  716.     prior to the following revisions - 
  717.  
  718.                    DL4400 (11L)      DL4600 (03C)
  719.  
  720.  
  721.     The printers firmware revision can be established by switching on 
  722.     the printer while holding down the Form Feed button (DL1100) or 
  723.     the F1 key (DL4400 & DL4600), the printer will then go into self 
  724.     test which will print out the firmware revision.
