  20. The following is a list of minimum requirements
  21. for running ZOOP (tm) PC Demo-
  22.  
  23. - DOS 5.0 or Higher (this requirement not relevant with
  24.   Windows '95)
  25.  
  26. - 486 or later system processor
  27.  
  28. - 550 Kb (563,200 bytes) of available conventional RAM
  29.  
  30. - 4 Mb (4,194,304 bytes) of total system RAM (see section 6.
  31.   Windows Configuration if you have less that 8Mb
  32.   system RAM) 
  33.  
  34. - SVGA Video Adapter
  35.  
  36. - A sound card is required if sound effects and music are
  37.   to be enabled, see section 5 for compatability 
  38.   information
  39.  
  40.  
  41. > 2. Normal Installation
  42.  
  43. From Windows, use the Run Program feature from the Files
  44. menu of the Program Manager in Windows 3.10 or 3.11, or 
  45. from the Start button in Windows '95.
  46.  
  47. Select the Setup.exe file located in the directory that
  48. contains the ZOOP (tm) PC Demo install files.
  49.  
  50. Follow the directions given in the Install Program.
  51.  
  52. Note:
  53. The installation program used to install ZOOP (tm) PC
  54. Demo, INSTALL, is licensed software provided by
  55. Knowledge Dynamics Corp, P.O. Box 780068, San Antonio
  56. Texas 78278 (USA). INSTALL is Copyright (c) 1987-1994
  57. by Knowledge Dynamics Corp which reserves all
  58. copyright protection worldwide. Install is provided to
  59. you for the exclusive purpose of installing ZOOP (tm)
  60. Demo PC. Viacom New Media has modified the software as
  61. provided by Knowledge Dynamics Corp. and thus the
  62. performance and behavior of INSTALL as shipped with
  63. ZOOP (tm) Demo PC may not represent the performance and
  64. behavior of INSTALL as shipped by Knowledge Dynamics
  65. Corp. Viacom New Media is exclusively responsible for
  66. the support of ZOOP (tm) Demo PC, including support
  67. during the installation phase. In no event will
  68. Knowledge Dynamics Corp. provide any technical support
  69. for ZOOP (tm) Demo PC.

  72. > 3. Starting the Game
  73.  
  74. Double click on the newly created "Zoop 
  75. Demo" icon from the "ZOOP Demo Group" while 
  76. in Windows. In the game, use cursor keys to 
  77. navigate menus selecting with Ctrl (Fire) key.

  80. > 4. Video Adapter Considerations
  81.  
  82. ZOOP (tm) PC Demo has been shipped with a
  83. configuration that will work for most PCs.
  84. Some video adapters do not implement the 
  85. standard known as VESA exactly the same way 
  86. in their hardware designs. For this reason, 
  87. different software drivers are required to 
  88. make some adapters work similarly to the 
  89. others.
  90.  
  91. We have included a utility that provides
  92. a library of drivers for many of the most
  93. popular adapters. The current version of
  94. the utility will not operate when run
  95. from Windows 3.11 or earlier. It will work
  96. when run from Windows '95. If you are using
  97. Windows 3.10 or 3.11 on your system, you
  98. must exit Windows to run the utility.
  99.  
  100. To run the utility from DOS, change the 
  101. working directory (using the CD command) 
  102. to the directory where ZOOP (tm) PC Demo 
  103. has been installed, I.E. "CD C:\ZOOPDEMO".
  104. Then execute UVCONFIG.EXE and follow the
  105. directions. After the new driver has been
  106. installed, run Windows again and you are
  107. ready to play the game.
  108.  
  109. We know of some cards that may not work
  110. even after installing the drivers as
  111. described above.
  112.  
  113. - Orchid Farenheit 1280 with S3 chipset
  114.   number 924 with V3.0 Bios 
  115.   
  116. - Orchid Celcius
  117.   Current VESA driver supplied with the
  118.   adapter will not help. A new version of
  119.   the driver is expected soon that may fix
  120.   the problem.
  121.  
  122. - Matrox MGA Ultima
  123.   Can run with VESA driver supplied with
  124.   the adapter. Use instructions supplied with
  125.   the adapter instead of above instructions 
  126.   to install the driver.
  127.  
  128. - Diamond Stealth Viper with Weitech 9000 
  129.   chipset does not run. Nearly all other 
  130.   Diamond adapters work without problems.

  132.  
  133. > 5. Sound Card Considerations
  134.  
  135. The following is a list of known problems
  136. encountered with some sound cards and any
  137. known remedies.
  138.  
  139. - Aztec Labs SGNXPro 16
  140.   select Sound Blaster Pro from Setsound program
  141.  
  142. - Aztech Labs SG
  143.   select Sound Blaster from Setsound program
  144.  
  145. - Aztech Labs SGNXPro Extra
  146.   select Sound Blaster from Setsound program
  147.  
  148. - Aztech Labs SGPro16
  149.   select Sound Blaster Pro from Setsound program
  150.   (crashes if Sound Blaster selected)
  151.  
  152. - Ensoniq SoundScape
  153.   will not run with any supplied drivers from
  154.   inside Windows 
  155.   run ZOOP.EXE from DOS after selecting Sound 
  156.   Blaster from Setsound program
  157.  
  158. - ESS Audio Magician
  159.   select Sound Blaster from Setsound program
  160.   note: Setsound fails to detect this card
  161.   make settings manually using those described
  162.   in the Sound Card's documentation
  163.  
  164. - Media Vision Pro Audio 3D
  165.   select Sound Blaster Pro from Setsound
  166.  
  167. - Gravis Ultra Sound
  168.   run ZOOP.EXE from DOS after selecting Gravis
  169.   Ultra Sound from Setsound
  170.  
  171. There are many others that will work by trying
  172. Sound Blaster and/or Sound Blaster Pro from
  173. Setsound.
  174.  
  175. Note: Be sure to select no Midi Sound and no 
  176. Digital Sound from the Setsound program if you
  177. don't have a sound card installed.
  178.  
  179.  
  180. > 6. Windows 3.11 or 3.10 Configuration 
  181.  
  182. If you have less than 8 Mb of system RAM and
  183. you find that ZOOP (tm) PC Demo will not
  184. run because you are out of memory, you must
  185. ensure that no other applications are
  186. running and that you have at least a 4 Mb
  187. virtual memory swapfile enabled for Windows
  188. to take advantage of.
  189.  
  190. To ensure that there is a swapfile and that
  191. it is big enough, the following steps are
  192. listed.
  193.  
  194. - Double click on the Main group in the
  195.   Program Manager Window.
  196.  
  197. - Double click on the Control Panel icon
  198.   in the Main Window.
  199.  
  200. - Double click on the Enhanced icon in the
  201.   Control Panel Window.
  202.  
  203. - Click on the Virtual Memory... button.
  204.  
  205. - If Swapfile Settings size is less than
  206.   4096 Kb or if Type = none, adjustments
  207.   must be made. If these are both false, then
  208.   Swapfile settings probably won't help.
  209.  
  210. - Press the Change>> button if adjustments
  211.   are required.
  212.  
  213. - In New Swapfile Settings Type field select
  214.   Temporary or Permanent.
  215.  
  216. - Click in New Size field and enter a number
  217.   not less than 4096.
  218.  
  219. - Press OK button.
  220.  
  221. - Allow Windows to automatically restart.
  222.  
  223. - Presto! You have a swapfile.
  224.  
  225.
