Tips To Enjoy Learning About Math At Home Get a book about child development so you can anticipate what your youngster will be doing at various ages. • Matching items that are alike is a skill that children love to practice over and over again. Matching activities help children learn about members and counting. From there adding and subtracting can mastered. Understanding words used in math is also important: bigger than, more than, less than, equal to, same, group, take away, add, subtract, total, sum, difference.. find time to leam these. Practice these kinds of activities as your child shows a readiness for them.. have fun. Matching objects to objects Learning numbers and their names Matching numbers to objects Counting objects (three apples to thee oranges...) (5 is the same as the word five) (4 to four flowers) (1,2,3,4,5 pencils) (1,2,4,5,7,8) Counting in order and in sequences Teach these symbols to your child (+,-,-,<) and different ways to write problems Recognizing signs and terms to do math (+,-,-,>,<) Understanding math problems and how they work (3+5=) (3+_-8) Doing addition both vertically and horizontally 3 Doing subtraction both vertically and horizontally +5 -3 Many math skills lend themselves to do everyday accomplishments that can be fun for the entire family: shopping, cooking birthday and family parties, card games, daily chores around the house, telling time, keeping a schedule, making crafts and using money.
