  34.      Minoxidil should be stored at room temperature in a tightly closed
  35. container.

  37. USES
  38.  
  39.      In its oral tablet form, minoxidil is prescribed by doctors to treat high
  40. blood pressure.  This medication lowers blood pressure by dilating (widening)
  41. the blood vessels in the body.

  43. TREATMENT
  44.  
  45.      Minoxidil can be taken either on an empty stomach or with food or a full
  46. glass of water or milk (as directed by your doctor or pharmacist).
  47.      In order to become accustomed to taking this medication, try to take it
  48. at the same time(s) each day.
  49.      Minoxidil does not cure high blood pressure, but it will help to control
  50. the condition as long as you continue to take the medication.
  51.      If you miss a dose of this medication, take the missed dose as soon as
  52. possible, unless it is almost time for your next dose.  In that case, do not
  53. take the missed dose at all; just return to your regular dosing schedule.  Do
  54. not double the next dose.

  56. SIDE EFFECTS
  57.  
  58.      Minor.
  59.  
  60.      Fatigue, flushing, headache, nausea, or vomiting.  These side effects
  61. should disappear as your body adjusts to the medication.
  62.  
  63.      Major.
  64.  
  65.      Tell your doctor about any side effects that are persistent or
  66. particularly bothersome.  IT IS ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT TO TELL YOUR DOCTOR about
  67. abnormal hair growth, breast tenderness (in both sexes), chest pain, difficult
  68. or painful urination, darkening of the skin, palpitations, rapid weight gain
  69. (three to five pounds within a week), skin rash, or unusual bleeding or
  70. bruising.

  72. INTERACTIONS
  73.  
  74.      Concurrent use of minoxidil and guanethidine can cause a severe drop in
  75. blood pressure.
  76.      BE SURE TO TELL YOUR DOCTOR about any medications you are currently
  77. taking, especially if you are taking guanethidine.
  78.  
  79. WARNINGS
  80.  
  81.      * Tell your doctor about unusual or allergic reactions you have had to
  82. any medications, especially to minoxidil.
  83.      * Before starting to take this medication, be sure to tell your doctor if
  84. you have ever had angina, heart failure, a heart attack, kidney disease,
  85. pericardial effusions, pheochromocytoma, or a stroke.
  86.      * Do not take any over-the-counter (nonprescription) cough, cold,
  87. allergy, asthma, sinus, or diet medications unless you first check with your
  88. doctor or pharmacist.  Some of these products can increase your blood
  89. pressure.
  90.      * Do not stop taking minoxidil unless you first check with your doctor.
  91. Stopping the drug abruptly may lead to a worsening of your high blood
  92. pressure.  Your doctor may, therefore, want to reduce your dosage gradually or
  93. start you on another medication when you stop taking minoxidil in order to
  94. prevent this from occurring.
  95.      * Be sure to tell your doctor if you are pregnant.  Birth defects have
  96. been reported in the offspring of animals that received large doses of
  97. minoxidil during pregnancy.  Also, tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding
  98. an infant.  Minoxidil passes into breast milk, and it is recommended that a
  99. woman taking this medication should not breast-feed.
