  36.      Store at room temperature in a tightly closed container.  This medication
  37. should never be frozen.
  38.  
  39. USES
  40.  
  41.      This medication is used to treat fungal infections of the vagina.
  42. Clotrimazole is an antifungal agent that prevents the growth and
  43. multiplication of a wide range of fungi and yeast, including Candida.
  44.  
  45. TREATMENT
  46.  
  47.      Clotrimazole vaginal cream and tablets are packaged with detailed
  48. directions for use.  Follow these instructions carefully.  An applicator will
  49. probably be provided for inserting the cream into the vagina.  Use this
  50. medication at bedtime, unless otherwise directed by your doctor.
  51.      You should wash the area carefully prior to inserting the cream or tablet
  52. into the vagina.
  53.      If you begin to menstruate while being treated with clotrimazole,
  54. continue your regular dosing schedule.
  55.      If you miss a dose of this medication, insert the missed dose as soon as
  56. possible.  However, if you do not remember until the following day, do not
  57. insert the missed dose at all; just return to your regular dosing schedule.
  58. Do not use a double dose of the medication at the next application.
  59.      It is important to continue to insert this medication for the entire time
  60. prescribed by your doctor--even if the symptoms disappear before the end of
  61. that period.  If you stop using the drug too soon, resistant fungus could be
  62. given a chance to continue growing, and it is possible that your infection
  63. could recur.

  65. SIDE EFFECTS
  66.  
  67.      Minor.
  68.  
  69.      You may experience vaginal burning, itching, or irritation when this drug
  70. is inserted.  This sensation should disappear as your body adjusts to the
  71. medication.  Your sexual partner may also experience some burning or
  72. irritation.
  73.      Do not treat any side effects that occur in the area of the infection
  74. unless you first consult your doctor.
  75.  
  76.      Major.
  77.  
  78.      Tell your doctor about any side effects that are persistent or
  79. particularly bothersome.  IT IS ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT TO TELL YOUR DOCTOR about
  80. abdominal cramps, blistering, bloating, excessive irritation, painful
  81. urination, or peeling of the skin.

  83. INTERACTIONS
  84.  
  85.      Clotrimazole should not interact with other medications if it is used
  86. according to directions.
  87.  
  88. WARNINGS
  89.  
  90.      * Tell your doctor about unusual or allergic reactions you have had to
  91. any medications, especially to clotrimazole.
  92.      * Tell your doctor if you have had other vaginal infections, especially
  93. if they have been resistant to treatment.
  94.      * To prevent reinfection, avoid sexual intercourse or ask your partner to
  95. use a condom until treatment is completed.
  96.      * There may be some vaginal drainage while using this medication;
  97. therefore, you may want to use a sanitary napkin or panty liner to prevent the
  98. staining of clothing.  However, the use of tampons is not recommended since
  99. they may soak up too much of the medicine.
  100.      * Whenever possible, wear cotton panties rather than those made of nylon
  101. or other nonporous materials while being treated for a vaginal fungus
  102. infection.  Also, in order to better prevent reinfection, always wear freshly
  103. laundered underclothes.
  104.      * If there is no improvement in your condition, or if irritation in the
  105. area continues after several days of treatment, CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR.  This
  106. medication may be causing an allergic reaction, or it may not be effective
  107. against the organism causing your infection.
  108.      * This medication has been prescribed for your current infection only.
  109. Another infection that develops later on, or one that someone else has, may
  110. require a different medication.  Therefore, you should not give your
  111. medication to other women or use it for other infections unless your doctor
  112. specifically directs you to do so.
  113.      * Tell your doctor if you are pregnant.  Clotrimazole appears to be safe
  114. during pregnancy.  However, extensive studies have not been conducted.  In
  115. addition, your doctor may want to change the instructions on how you are to
  116. use this drug if you are pregnant.  Also, tell your doctor if you are
  117. breast-feeding.  It is not known whether this drug passes into breast milk.
