  33.      Baclofen should be stored at room temperature in a tightly closed
  34. container.

  36. USES
  37.  
  38.      This medication is used to relieve muscle spasms.  It is unclear exactly
  39. how baclofen works to relieve spasticity, but it is known that the drug acts
  40. on the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord).

  42. TREATMENT
  43.  
  44.      Baclofen can be taken either on an empty stomach or with food or a full
  45. glass of milk or water.
  46.      If you miss a dose of this medication and remember within an hour, take
  47. the missed dose immediately.  If more than an hour has passed, do not take the
  48. missed dose at all; just return to your regular dosing schedule.  Do not
  49. double the next dose.

  51. SIDE EFFECTS
  52.  
  53.      Minor.
  54.  
  55.      Abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth,
  56. fatigue, headache, insomnia, loss of appetite, nasal congestion, vomiting, or
  57. weight gain.  These side effects should disappear as your body adjusts to the
  58. medication.
  59.      To relieve constipation, increase the amount of fiber in your diet (fresh
  60. fruits and vegetables, salads, bran, and whole-grain breads), exercise, and
  61. drink more water (unless your doctor directs you to do otherwise).
  62.      If you feel dizzy, sit or lie down for a while; get up slowly from a
  63. sitting or lying position, and be careful on stairs.
  64.      To relieve mouth dryness, chew sugarless gum or suck on ice chips or a
  65. piece of hard candy.

  69.      Tell your doctor about any side effects that are persistent or
  70. particularly bothersome.  IT IS ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT TO TELL YOUR DOCTOR about
  71. chest pain, confusion, convulsions, depression, fainting, false sense of
  72. well-being, hallucinations, muscle pain, palpitations, ringing in the ears,
  73. slurred speech, tremors, or visual disturbances.

  75. INTERACTIONS
  76.  
  77.      Concurrent use of baclofen with other central nervous system depressants
  78. (such as alcohol, antihistamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepine tranquilizers,
  79. muscle relaxants, narcotics, pain medications, phenothiazine tranquilizers,
  80. and sleeping medicines) or with tricyclic antidepressants can lead to extreme
  81. drowsiness.
  82.      BE SURE TO TELL YOUR DOCTOR about any medications you are currently
  83. taking, especially any listed above.

  85. WARNINGS
  86.  
  87.      * Be sure to tell your doctor about any unusual or allergic reactions you
  88. have had to any drugs, especially to baclofen.
  89.      * Before starting to take baclofen, be sure to tell your doctor if you
  90. now have or if you have ever had diabetes mellitus, epilepsy, kidney disease,
  91. mental disorders, or a stroke.
  92.      * If this drug makes you dizzy or drowsy, avoid taking part in any
  93. activity that requires alertness, such as driving a car.
  94.      * Do not stop taking this medication unless you have first checked with
  95. your doctor.  Stopping therapy with this medication abruptly can lead to
  96. hallucinations, nervousness, convulsions, and mood changes.  Your doctor may,
  97. therefore, want to reduce your dosage of this medication gradually.
  98.      * Be sure to tell your doctor if you are pregnant.  Although baclofen
  99. appears to be safe in humans, birth defects have been reported in the
  100. offspring of animals that received large doses of this drug during pregnancy.
  101. Also, tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding an infant.  It is not known
  102. whether baclofen passes into breast milk.
