- Water retention, lower back aches and morning sickness. . . what else can
- make pregnancy uncomfortable? Allergies! Recent studies show that
- approximately 30 percent of all expecting women experience mild to moderate
- allergy attacks. In fact, according to these studies, pregnancy can have
- allergy symptoms more severe, or even trigger them for the first time.
- Although hay fever is the most common allergy experienced by moms-to-be, a
- number of indoor allergens, such as molds, animal dander, and dust mites are
- potential triggers of symptoms. In such cases the best remedy for pregnant
- women may be environmental control. A second line of defense can be
- relatively safe nasal sprays to control irritated runny noses. All
- medications used during a pregnancy should be under the supervision, and with
- the consent of the physician. For additional information, as well as
- educational brochures and listing of allergy foundations, may be obtained by
- calling the Allergy Information Center and Hotline 1-800-727-5400. A recorded
- message will offer you the opportunity to receive more information on either
- general allergies or dust mite allergies.
