A Resource About Sjogren's Syndrome
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With a flurry of mail inquiring about Sjogren's Syndrome packing the
mailbag lately, probably due to a recent mention of this problem in my column,
it was apparent that more information was needed to respond to the need.
Sjogren's Syndrome, first described by Dr. Henrik Sjogren, a Swedish
Ophthalmologist in 1933, is a chronic inflammatory disorder that reduces the
secretions of the lacrimal and salivary glands, causing dry eyes and mouths.
These symptoms may be linked with other disease, such as rheumatoid arthritis,
or occur alone as primary Sjogren's syndrome. With an estimated 1.2 million
individuals experiencing these symptoms, it is no wonder that more information
is required. And that is obtainable from the Sjogren's Syndrome Foundation,
Inc., 382 Main Street, Port Washington, NY 11050. Upon request DIRECTLY to
them, accompanied by a stamped self addressed envelope with 45 cents postage,
they will provide you with a most informative booklet that contains all the
information you may need as well as indications of other resources that may
help you. If you are one of "The Moisture Seekers" as they call themselves,
here is real help.
