- One out of every forty Americans are locked in uncontrollable rituals
- that interfere with day to day life. These obsessive compulsive disorder
- (OCD) sufferers are tormented by obsessions; persistent unwanted thoughts or
- impulses. They also can be haunted by compulsions; senseless repetitive
- behaviors, such as constant hand washing, repetitive door lock checking, hair
- pulling and more. Some researchers now believe OCD is a physical rather than
- an "emotional" illness, and can be treated with medication. A national
- nonprofit organization provides help and support to OCD sufferers. To contact
- the OC Foundation write or call: The Obsessive Compulsive Foundation, P.O.
