- A Resource About Walking for a Healthy Heart

-
- When I responded to a question about the benefits of a walking exercise
- program several weeks ago, I never thought that there would be so much
- interest from my readers, but the mail reveals the need for more information.
- And I have it for you. Walking is a great aerobic exercise, and if performed
- correctly for 20-30 minutes three times a week, can procure benefits for the
- exerciser that have real health implications. Rather than creating fatigue,
- you can develop more energy and stamina, and increase your resistance to
- fatigue. Weight loss programs receive a big boost from the additional
- calories that you burn, and you may burn away some tensions and stress as
- well. It is an easy activity to start, once you have the information and a
- bit of motivation. The information is contained in an excellent booklet,
- obtainable from the American Heart Association, Box WLK-2, 7320 Greenville
- Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75231-4599, called "Walking for a Healthy Heart" .
- Please send your request directly to them, and include a stamped, self
- addressed legal sized envelope along with your note. Your booklet will
- contain important information about the benefits of walking, and how to get
- started. There are tips on the choice of a time of day, finding a place to
- walk, and proper walking attire, plus a description of warm up exercises,
- target heart rates, and even a schedule of a walking program. All you need is
- the motivation, and a good partner.
