LAUGHTER AND JOY
A merry heart doeth good like a medicine....
(Proverb 17:22)
Laughter is good medicine and I hope that you took
a large dose in this electronic jokebook.
However, laughter is brief and transitory. It is
conditioned by circumstances and environment.
Happiness is good also. However, it is elusive
and can be lost like a little child's toy.
There is something better and it cannot be lost.
Like a still river, it runs deep. It is not affected
by circumstances or sorrow. That something is joy.
Joy is a gift. Human beings do not possess it
naturally. It is God's gift to all who will receive
it. Joy is a concomitant of the Holy Spirit--it exists
in the human heart when the Holy Spirit is there.
When one accepts Christ as Savior, the Holy Spirit
takes up his abode within. He brings the healing love
of God, hope and joy:
And hope maketh not ashamed; because the
love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by
the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
(Romans 5:5).
So shall my word be that goeth forth out
of my mouth: it shall not return unto me
void, but it shall accomplish that which I
please, and it shall prosper in the thing
whereto I sent it. For ye shall go out with
joy, and be led forth with peace: the
mountains and the hills shall break forth
before you into singing, and all the trees of
the field shall clap their hands. (Isaiah
55:11-12).
But the fruit of the Spirit is love,
joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness,
goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance:
against such there is no law. (Galatians
5:22-23)
For the kingdom of God is not meat and
drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy
in the Holy Ghost. (Romans 14:17).
