  3. Alphabet (I.P.A.). If you don't understand that sentence, you don't

  9. Punctuation: ! ' " : ( ) , - . em-dash en-dash ? slash backslash
  10. tilde -- open and close single and double quotes -- unstress (shift-option
  11. O or 249 ascii) and upside down exclamation point and question mark

  13. lower-case letters: a b d e f g h i j k l m n o p r s t u v w x y

  16. Special phonetic codes on upper-case letters:

  18. A - merged ae
  19. E - schwa (upside-down lower-case e)
  20. G - German 'g' sound (looks like v with a circle under it)
  21. H - upside-down lower-case h (the wh sound)
  22. I - shortened upper-case i, for use in diphthongs
  23. N - symbol for ng sound
  24. O - merged oe
  25. S - sh sound, looks like an integral
  26. T - voiced th sound, looks like a script lower-case d with a slash
  27. through it
  28. U - shortened upper-case U, for use in diphthongs
  29. Y - shortened upper-case Y, for diphthongs
  30. Z - script lowercase z, zh sound
