UNISOL SysAdmin
UniSolutions Associates
UNISOL SysAdmin is an integrated system administration software package which
aids in maintaining a consistent and secure UNIX environment.
SysAdmin provides a
secure menu interface
(for both curses and X Windows environments)
to privileged commands, allowing delegation of everyday system
administration tasks to operators and other general administrative
personnel, without compromising system integrity.
SysAdmin is available as a base package for the management of a single
machine, with several
optional modules available for the management of
additional systems and enhanced functionality.
Features of SysAdmin include:
-
User account management including an optional
domain-based distributed account management module,
with multi-level administrative domains while local control is retained at
each administrative domain. Client-server architecture provides "immediate"
updates over the network, while a queueing mechanism gracefully handles
downed machines and networks.
-
Resource management, including: printer and spooler setup and management,
terminal management (for enabling and disabling terminals for login) and
device configuration. UUCP configuration for the definition of systems,
filesystem maintenance (including the creation, checking and counting of
filesystems) and, system and resource utilization reporting using standard
UNIX accounting facilities.
-
An optional performance-monitoring module
collects system activity and reports system performance for specific
resources in both tabular and graphical form.
-
An optional network management module allows the configuration and
monitoring of all hosts within the local area network from a central
location. NFS management allows the setup, configuration and administration
of NFS mounted filesystems and exported filesystems, while NIS management
configures the NIS databases within a local area network. Remote
system management allows the installation and updating of any software
package (or other managed module) within the local area network.
-
Two types of backup software are also available. SysAdmin includes a
standard backup module suitable for small installations, which is capable of
multivolume, multilevel backup and restore of files and filesystems and dump
log maintenance with remote tape and generic/remote/special file system
support. UNISOL BART is also optionally available
for larger installations seeking an automated unattended
network backup solution.
-
Tape manipulation commands including reading/writing/copying of
tar/cpio/foreign tapes.
-
System security
via automatic monitoring and correction of common security holes. Restrict
command execution by user id, group id, or date and time.
-
Process management;
file and directory management, cron management for
the scheduling of standard system maintenance tasks, system shutdown,
message broadcasting; electronic mail.
-
Automatic or user-controlled archival and restoration of files.
-
User interface toolkit for workstations (Motif or OPEN LOOK) and CRTs
(curses), allows users to easily develop windows-based applications for both
ASCII terminals and workstations.
-
Includes the UniMenu menu system, a flexible
front-end to UNIX commands and applications, user configurable from ASCII files.
