DisInformation was designed to be the search service of choice for individuals looking for information on current affairs, politics, new science and the 'hidden information,' that seldom seems to slip through the cracks of the corporate owned media conglomerates. The goal is to get users to the information they seek, in the fastest, most efficient way possible. To that end, we're linking to a smaller, higher quality pool of websites, so someone looking for up-to-date 'alternative' news on the situation in Bosnia, for example, won't have to sift through endless webpages which say something like 'Hi, I'm Dave. I think it's terrible what's going on in Bosnia. Here's a picture of my dog.' Primarily the database draws from quality news sources such as Time Magazine's on-line component, Hot Wired, CNN, etc., 'liberal' newsources like The Nation, and Atlantic Monthly, alternative sites like Z-Net and Mother Jones' 'MoJo Wire, and other e-zines and websites we found interesting, provocative and essential. We're also indexing these sites more frequently than the other services do, so our database is always 'hot off the presses,' and absolutely current. The WWW is a fluid medium and we'll be experimenting around with user's suggestions and continually trying to make DisInformation a better tool, the type WE would like to use! Please let us know how YOU think we can improve the quality of the service, we really value your comments. The 'eye in the triangle' icons basically rate how worthwhile our staff felt a visit to the site in question would be, for a variety of reasons and are fairly subjective. Four pyramids mean "Powerful. Check it out," while one means "Somewhat interesting, but maybe life's too short" or "Only if you're a total diehard." In addition to the search service, in DisInformation's 'metazine' our departments feature 'dossiers' of selected sites which cover many sides of a given issue or topic, both pro and con. The political bias of our staff just happens to be 'liberal' or 'progressive,' but that doesn't mean we close our minds to ideas that are deemed conservative, far from it. How can someone be truly well-informed with only half the story? As the database grows, DisInformation will catalog an incredible cross section of Internet errata, but it's not only about 'uncovering' these sites and pointing them out to users, it's about presenting a worldview that does not often come through in the corporate media. Hopefully, frequent visitors to DisInformation will start to form links in their minds from surfing through our links and see CLEARLY the connection between, for instance, the environmentally disastrous policies of certain multi-national corporations and the fact that the food chain could completely collapse due to widespread blindness in the wild honeybee population caused by increased UV radiation exposure resulting from the damaged ozone layer. Bees can't wear sunglasses. Blind bees cannot pollinate plant life and without that CRITICAL link in the food chain... Well... figure it out for yourself. Information is power. | ||||
