HOW TO EXTRACT IMAGES FROM A MOVIE by Steve Christov

Maya Complete
Fusion Lite - NT

Using Fusion Lite, you will learn how-to import movie files to resave them into a series of images which you can then use in Maya as an animated texture file.

   STEP ONE

Open Fusion Lite. To open any types of files to work with you will need to insert a loader.

You can open all of your tools in a window by going to File > Bins. Click on the loader and drag it into the lower left window.

You will also need to have a saver, select and drag it into the same window as the loader.

   STEP TWO

You will notice that the attributes for the loader and saver are located in the right hand window.

Click on the arrow icon to expand them. In the loader under the file tab, click on the folder icon to browse to the movie file of your choice, click Open.

To ensure you capture all the images in the movie file, make sure that the global in and global out match or exceed the clip time start and clip time end.

   STEP THREE

In the saver, you will need to set where the files are going to be saved.

Click on the folder icon in the right hand corner, select the directory where the image files are to be placed. It is a good idea to set a separate image directory for all the individual images. Set the name of the images, and the format you wish the images to be saved.

NOTE: For importing into Maya it is best to use Maya IFF files

In the file name add a period to the end of the name. (eg. explosion.iff.) This will force Fusion to save the images with the frame number at the end of the name, which will allow you to use it as an animated texture file in Maya later.

   STEP FOUR

Beside the green start render button at the bottom of the screen, set the render start and render end time to the number of frames you want to capture.

Once everything is set click on Start Render.

   CONCLUSION

You now have a series of images that you can import into Maya to use as an animated texture file.
