Nero General Clean Tool
General CleanTool is the recommended program for uninstalling any Nero software.
Several software manufacturers, including Nero, McAfee and Norton (Symantec), provide special utility programs for removing their products. What you need is Nero General CleanTool, which you can download from http://tinyurl.com/s3pxx. Although the Web page says it's for version 7, this CleanTool is equally effective for versions 5 and 6.
As you will have experienced, installing Nero does also automatically install a number of accessory programs, but the CleanTool can remove these as well. Here are some pointers for completely removing all traces of Nero:
1. When you get to the window with the 'Products to remove' box, tick the 'Clean all' box and click the Clean button.
2. Click No when asked whether you want to keep your Nero serial number and plug-in licences.
3. Click Yes when asked whether you want to clean personal settings. For the benefit of others who might want to uninstall Nero and reinstall it later, it's a good idea to record the serial number before running the CleanTool. The serial number is located in the Windows registry, and you can view it from Registry Editor:
a. Click Start -> Run, type <B>regedit<B> and press Enter.
b. Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ahead\Nero-Burning Rom\Info
c. In the Name column at the right, look for Serial5, Serial6 or Serial7 in the Name box, and double-click that entry.
d. Copy the entry in the 'Value data' field. This is your serial number and will be
15xx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx (Nero 5.x)
1Axx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx (Nero 6.x)
1C80-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx (Nero 7.x)
e. Paste the serial number into Notepad and save the file.
f. Return to Registry Editor, click the Cancel button and close the program.
