Team Tournaments

What is a Team Tournament?
Team tournaments are special events that take place in the Premier Events room and the Sanctioned Tournaments room. Three-player teams compete against each other in Sealed-Deck events, often with Rochester Draft finals.

A team tournament works much like a normal tournament. Players build decks and play against members of opposing teams for points. Each team member is paired against a member of an opposing team and individual points go to a team total.

In the Sealed-Deck portion, all cards are placed in a team pool from which all three players build their decks. See Team Deck Building for information.

In the Rochester Draft portion, players draft cards and build decks individually. See Tournament Rules for more information.

How Do I Join a Team Tournament?
Go to the Premier Events room or the Sanctioned Tournaments room to find a team tournament you want to join. Look in the "Teams" column to see if a tournament is a team event or not. Select the tournament and click Go To. Once inside, click Join. Your name will be added to the Incomplete Teams list.

After you've joined, you can create your own team, or get invited to join another team.

Creating a new team
If you want to create your own team, click Name Team and type in the name you want. The team name will appear before your name in the Incomplete Teams list. You can click Name Team again any time before you have three team members to change the name of your team.

Then you need to find two other players to join your team. Select other players without teams from the Incomplete Teams list and click Invite. You can also right click a player's name and select Invite. If that player accepts his or her name will be added after yours. Once you have two other players, your team moves up to the Teams list.

Joining a team
Once you've joined a team tournament, team captains can invite you to join their teams. When a captain invites you to join, you'll get a message stating what captain is inviting you and what team it is. If you click Accept, you'll be added to the team list. If you click Decline, the message window will close and your name stays in the Incomplete Teams list.

Dropping
You can drop from a team any time before a tournament starts by clicking Drop Team. If you do, your name will be moved back down to the Incomplete Teams list. From there, you can start a new team or be invited to join a different team.

You can also drop from the tournament at any time by clicking Drop, or by right clicking the tournament bar at the bottom of your screen and selecting Drop.

If a team captain drops from the tournament or from the team, the player who's been on the team longest becomes the team captain.

If any player drops from the tournament, the team continues playing. If two players drop, the entire team is dropped. You can't add a new player once the tournament begins.

Team Deck Building
When the event begins, team members all go to a shared Deck Builder screen. This screen works exactly like the normal Deck Builder screen, with a few differences.

At first, only the captain's Sideboard and all the team members' Deck windows are showing. All cards in the team's pool show in the captain's Sideboard window. The other players' Sideboard windows are minimized. You can click on any of the minimized windows to show them on the Deck Builder screen.

Players can move cards from one window to another, even from another team member's Sideboard or Deck window. Once all three team members have legal decks, any member can click Submit. Doing so submits decks for all three team members.

Players can continue modifying and resubmitting decks until either the deck building time limit runs out, or all teams have submitted decks.
