Step by step: Getting started with Nvu

1. Start a new page. Launch Nvu and choose File, New, click A blank document and click Create. A new tab appears with the word Untitled on it. To add a table to format the page, click the Table button on the toolbar, drag over the squares to create a 2 x 2 table and click Ok.

2. Setup a table. To size the table, click in it and drag on the sizing handles that appear outside it in the margins. To join two cells, drag to select the two cells, right click and choose Join Selected Cells from the menu.

3. Add an image. To add an image to the joined cell, click in it and choose Insert, Image. Click Choose File and locate the file on your disk. Click Open and then add the Alternate text. To alter the image dimensions, choose Dimensions and click Custom Size and set the dimensions. When you’re done, click Ok.

4. Configure link options. To create a background for the page and to configure the text colours, choose Format, Page Colors and Background. Click Use custom colors and select the colours to use for text and for the page background and click Ok. You can now type the page text.

5. Format text. To format the text, select it and use the dropdown options from the toolbar or choose Format, Font. Alter the alignment of text in the cell by right clicking and choose Table Cell Properties and select from the Content Alignment options.

6. Creating links. Select the text to anchor the link to and choose Insert, Link. Type the page reference to link to. If it is to a page which you will create on your site, type just the page name including the .htm part. Continue to add text, image and links to the page as required.
