Step By Step: Multi-track mixing in Audacity

1.
To record a new track, select New Audio Track from the Project
menu. Ensure this track is highlighted. |

2.
At the top of the program you will see two sets of level meters.
One if for playback (the speaker icon), the other is for record
input (the microphone icon). Click the little arrow under the
input meters and select Monitor Input from the drop down menu.
Test your Mic (or other recording source) to make sure the level
meter is responding. |

Click the record button on the control bar to start recording.

If you have some files already on disc you want to work with,
select Import Audio from the Project menu (or type CTRL-I),
select your file and it will load into its own dedicated track. |
