There are several major Internet Relay Chat networks, each with servers around the world. Here are three of the main networks and some of their servers. See our guide to using IRC to get started.

Undernet
One of the main worldwide IRC networks, and a good place to begin because its members are cooperative and very tolerant of `newbies'. Servers include:

sydney.nsw.au.undernet.org
wollongong.nsw.au.undernet.org
washington.dc.us.undernet.org

EFNet
The biggest, oldest and busiest IRC network. Servers include:

yoyo.cc.monash.edu.au
irchat.utas.edu.au
ircserver.qabc.uq.oz.au
irc.eskimo.com
irc.colorado.edu

DALnet
A network that's becoming increasingly popular and lets users have nicknames of up to 30 letters. Australian server:

armidale.nsw.au.DAL.net
