On assignment for Weekend Magazine, Jock Carroll spent time photographing Marilyn both on and off the set of Niagara. The first third or so of this book contains text describing Jock Carroll's interactions with Marilyn during the time that he was on assignment. The remainder of the book features the photographs, all black-and-white, some of which showed up in magazines of the time, others which have not been seen before now.

Mostly pictures, with one or two small paragraphs on each page. The first half of the book is a filmography. The remainder of the book consists of various assorted MM topics, with one or two pages devoted to each. C.B.
	Marilyn Fifty-Five by Ed Feingarsh & Bob LaBrasca Published by Bloomsbury. 1990. UK. ISBN: 0-7475-0746-5. Details: Hardback. ? pages. Contains: Over 110 photos (b&w). If you want a good synopsis of what was involved in "making a Marilyn," get a copy of Marilyn Fifty-Five, a compilation of photographs taken by Ed Feingarsh while on an assignment for Redbook Magazine. In these photos, taken between March 24th and March 30th 1955, we see Marilyn being fitted for a costume, trying-on a new Norman Norell dress, visiting the Elizabeth Arden salon in NYC, and applying makeup before a night on the town to attend the opening of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. The book contains only a small amount of text, which serves to explain the setting for the photographs.

	Further Reading Other books that, though listed under different categories (or not available to me at this time), contain a good selection of photographs: Marilyn: The Life, The Myth by GiovanniBattista Brambilla is an enormous book, published by Rizzoli, and contains a large number of photos. Marilyn at Twentieth Century-Fox by Lawrence Crown contains an absolutely fabulous selection of photographs from the 20th Century-Fox archives, some quite rare. Marilyn: The Ultimate Look at the Legend by James Haspiel is a photo-book/memoir by the well-known Marilyn fan and collector, and contains a wealth of uncommon photographs of Marilyn, including many of costume-tests from her movies. Marilyn: A Neverending Dream by Gus Luitjers, though not printed on glossy stock, contains well-chosen, non-standard fare. Marilyn by Norman Mailer, is a sort of "best of" for photographs of Marilyn, with all of the top photographers' work represented.
