When I bought my copy of this book at a used-book store some years ago, I found that a disgruntled purchaser had inscribed the following note on the first page: "99% Joe, 1% Marilyn." That's as apt a description as could be written, and I shall not attempt to improve upon it. If you like reading about Joe D., however, I can point you to Robin Moore's Marilyn and Joe Dimaggio.
