Sometimes I've been asked -- or some people have tried to coax me -- to stray from that which I felt was true to me. I stood my ground and just said no. If you cannot except me the way I am, well then I don't need to be here, because there is a market for me. People do embrace this and so now when I get the feedback from my audience, when they say, "Congratulations sister," and pat me on the back, they want my autograph, they want a date, they want my phone number, and they say, "I love your ad" or "I loved your appearance here" or "I love your television" or "I love your cover" it just makes me feel really good. Believe you me hanging on to what you believe in and what I believed and what I stood for was not easy. I mean now it's nine years in and people are starting to come around, and they are sort of Roshumba knock offs, not quite the original thing. But now I'm starting to see where it has all started to pay off, and hopefully it will move on to other areas of the entertainment industry. RR: What kind of advice would you give young people trying to enter this business or have aspirations of being a model or even the next Roshumba? Roshumba: Well, first of all, there will be no next Roshumba. Be yourself! Anybody that's coming into the industry, the first thing I would say to them is it is a business -- fashion business. Remember that, and just know that although you have the limos, and the champagne, and the caviar, and the boyfriends, and the designer clothes and the multimillion dollar checks, you Page 6 of 10
